Small budget laptop, sub $500
I am looking for a laptop mostly for browsing and such but I will occasionally play borderlands, skyrim, and diablo 3 on it. Right now I am using a lenovo b570 and I want to downsize my budget is 500 but I would rather spend a little less I am really atracted to the hp dm1 foundhere http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+...Id=4845339 or http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion...Promotions not set on these but I would rather stay with something 13'' or less, I also found a used m11xr1 near me for $400, sorry for the long post I know this is kind of a specific quest as most laptops are getting bigger and my budget is quite small. Should I just stick with what I have, would one of those dm1's be an upgrade? or something else you could recommend all together? Thank you much in advanced. |

thanks I decided to order that one, should have it by monday, if anyone is interested I could run some tests using diablo 3 to benchmark how well it does, I am sure there are probably other people wanting a budget laptop capable of some gaming. I am now stuck between getting an ssd with it or 4 more gigs of ram, Off to do more research, I haven't bought a new computer in a long time, traded for my lenovo so its been a while since i looked this stuff up.

According to this site it is a very low class 4 card....almost like mobile integrated graphics 5 years ago>>http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-...634.0.html These $400 14" laptops (maybe too large for you) may have been marginally better(atleast a little playable on low settings, but maybe still not good enough due to intel HD 3000 gpu)>> http://slickdeals.net/f/5078990-N...000-400-FS http://slickdeals.net/f/5059318-D...e-Shipping |

so it would be a pretty big downgrade from my b570? its a core i3 with intel 3000 integrated graphics, i thought any recent dedicated card would do better. I'm not necessarily looking for it to game better than this, this one runs diablo 3 and such just fine for me on low-medium settings but I dont want to make a downgrade, just want to shrink screen sizes and some better battery life. Thank you again for your help, seems I have lost touch with whats good hardware pretty badly.
If i suck it up and stick with the 14 or 15 inch size is it worth it to jump into one of the a6 or a8 amd laptops I have seen or is this again just a side step from what I have? you guys are very helpful I tried to rep you but I guess I am to new, lurked here for years just never had to post. The graphics in most laptops are still integrated (not dedicated); (though integrated graphics are always improving eg. intel hd 3000, amd 6520g, intel hd4000,etc)..they use a term discrete class to fool us & the radeon name & number makes us think it's dedicated but it's still integrated. You have to research on sites like notebookreviews.com to make sure graphics are truly dedicated or not. Both Intel and AMD "CPUs" are fine for most people needs even though Intel is a little bit more powerful. The AMD A6 and A8 have enough power for most things, and definitely have better graphics. The new trinity A8 and A10 are even better for power efficiency and gpu. The best you can do with light gaming and portability is get a 14" laptop with i3 or AMD A6....or a very expensive new ultrabook with i5 3210 cpu or A10 trinity cpu. I picked up the m11x, its working great for what i use it for, plays diablo 3 and boarderlands great and battery life has been nice, thank you for helping me not jump into the first laptop I saw. and i got it cheap enough i plan to do an ssd or seagate momentous drive and up the ram for 4 to 8 gigs so it should only get better.

glad to help....if you're happy with it great! The alienware looks really nice. I've never seen these small laptops in action but the 11" with 1366x768 screen must look very sharp. Does it have gt 335m card & was it really expensive?..it's only class 3 gpu on notebookcheck.net but better than the integrated graphics of most laptops. so looks good as long as it plays all your games good enough to your liking. At low resolutions & medium settings it should run fine enough and long battery up to 8 hrs is great.

yeah its the 335m, thank you again Im pretty sure I would have been disappointed in most of the original laptops I almost bought. I paid 350 but its in great shape and just installed kingdoms of alumar and running it on high and not lagging so more than good enough for how much I will actually play, the light up keyboard sold me

And found it to be priced at $350. Is it the same one you have? gameplay looks good for a pc with such a low cpu (intel 4100). It's not rated very high according to this site http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_l...40+1.30GHz It's lower rated then most of the cpu laptops we discussed above. It performs good enough at other tasks? It just shows that most laptops these days with a graphic card are fun formidable machines.
