I prefer the ones that use standard batteries, as they're much easier to swap out if needed. Also, some of them are remarkably energy efficient just using AA batteries. These are great flashlights, but IMO the battery design of this one makes it less than ideal, especially when they make cheaper ones that are plenty powerful and don't require expensive batteries.

There are a bunch that offer ample light while only running on a few AA's. I don't have time to look through them all to narrow down this list, but here are Fenix's offerings on amazon.

If you want a powerful flashlight like the tk35 that runs on standard batteries, you get the tk41 which is more expensive. I paid $80 last year for it when it was on sale + 20% off outdoor at amazon. But normally the tk41 doesnt drop below $100 often.

I was just pointing out that there's a lot of impulse shoppers on SD. If you're going to spend near $100 on a flashlight, make sure you actually need that much power. I looked into all these when I was shopping for mine and concluded the one I got was sufficient for my needs (general purpose + mountain hiking). If you need this much light it's not a bad deal, but most people will get by just fine with its smaller, less expensive cousins that run on AA's.

mine fits great in a holster. i hardly notice it is there until i need to turn night into day. I can see using a AA light for EDC, but hiking?! maybe hardcore (lightweight) backpacking....
i fill that role with a small 1x18650 light that is 4x as bright as that ek21 |

Not sure the rave about Fenix lights.... got the LD10 for that $44 "deal" several months ago, not impressed at all with the beam... maybe the build quality is great if you dropped your lights on rocks every day or something, but the $9 ones I got off Meritline are brighter and more adjustable. Am I missing some awesome feature on the Fenix that validates its cost, or am I just getting lucky with the Chinese ones.... but having 4 of the meritlines would seemingly beat the one Fenix any day in my eyes so far.
