From my experience buying the laptop use would be better to get it new since you don't know who had used it prior. But you'll get whatever you want it's your money. I just like starting fresh. This deal and the ACER one are very good for the price you get. Added the additional 8GB is cheap now. Or you can swap out the HD for SSD if you like to go for those type of drives.

Only go used to save some money going new start off as the original owner. Owning NV and NE models and new Newer ones support 8GB of RAM fast CPU, larger caches. LED/LCD Ultra Bite Panels. Much more. Target has the prices lower so most can get a brand new vs used one. I would say go with new!

This is one benefit of buying a new laptop instead of a used one. When purchasing a new laptop, the owner can be more picky and choosy about the specific essential functions. With used laptops, program options can be limited because functions such as a dependable hard drive, high ram memory and processor may be hard to find.

Thanks...just sent my wife out to replace her computer. Her last computer, probably bought six years ago, set her out $1200, so she's happy as anything to be getting a system this inexpensive (and more powerful than what she has).

Don't let the price fool you it's a very good system and plus it's up-gradable. Just flip over at the lower top end there is are screw to remove. Prior to doing that there is a slide notch. Looks orange in color slide to your right and remove the battery. Make sure not cable like power are connected. Memory upgrade is easy just $20 bucks more on Amazon. HDD can be swapped out if you need bigger than 500GB. Choices are: 750GB and 1TB. Or SDD type can be had cheap on the SD site somewhere under Hot Deals.

Anyone know of a good warranty you can buy for this laptop, one that covers accidental damage and includes next-day on-site service? We always buy Dells direct from Dell to get that kind of warranty, but surely there are other companies that offer it? Hubby is considering a new laptop, and we've made use of the dell warranty on his laptop after a few accidents, so we definitely want to know we can get a similar warranty elsewhere if we switch from Dell. (The main problem with Dell is you have to order it to get this warranty, and when he decides he wants a new one he'd really like to just go in a store and get it immediately).

Remember the last Gateway Target thread? I'd say about 1/4 of the thread complained about some weird quirk.

Target sells in-house warranty range is $39 - $79. ACER parent company offers more protections you have to check with. I never bother getting them because I can fix them if they need. If the MOBO goes I'll just get another new system. $249 to $299 prices are real bargain for new laptop that can be upgraded past the 4GB mark. These are 2012 models not older stuff.

Thanks, I didn't know target had a warranty. The damage warranty is worth it to us because my husband can be, well, a klutz. He's dropped the dell a few times and spilled a drink on it a couple of times. It would've been prohibitive to buy new or pay to repair each time. I have the same warranty on mine and have never needed it once, but the peace of mind is worth it. And we really needed it for the hubby. The Target service looks like it's send-off for repair. I'll have to investigate with Dell further, as when I looked at their site I could no longer find the on-site, next business day warranty as an option. If they don't offer it anymore, we may as well buy anywhere, including Target.
