Thread Details

Hi All - I tried to respond to the original Welcome Package thread but the thread was too old.. Just want people to know this is still an option and you do not have to be a current Dish customer. Here is my response to the old thread--

Few Gud channels in Welcome Pack :AMC ,TBS ,OXYGEN ,HISTORY ,COMEDY CENTRAL, BOOMERANG ,HUB,FOOD
I think this is a great deal - I got hooked up with it yesterday (after getting really tired of constantly having to adjust the rabbit ears for the few local channels that I can get!) .. I'm really pleased with the amount of channels for $15 -- I get the channels listed above and also The Learning Channel, Animal Planet, MTV2, Home & Garden, Game Show, Style, HDNetMovies, CountryMusicTV, Hallmark, MSNBC, -- more channels than I thought I would..
I want people to know you don't have to be a current Dish customer. I bought a dual tuner DVR receiver off craigslist for $40 and called Dish to activate it (I moved into a house that already had a dish installed on the roof). However, I had to call for tech support installation because I didn't know that my cable lines were cut up at the the satellite dish. So the initial activation call was $22 (first month of $15 plus thankfully the rep talked me into paying the $7 tech support insurance just in case I had problems getting this going by myself, and I can cancel the insurance next month). And I had to pay $15 for the tech guys to come replace the cable lines, which was well worth it because they also gave me 2 new remotes (receiver didn't come with remotes). There is no 2 yr contract required.
Anyway - it's a great deal, especially if you already have a Dish on your house (don't know how much installation is if you don't).

Thanks op and repped! Just moved into a new place and was thinking of not getting any service I think this just changed my mind. Plus it includes the local channels which is awesome. Here is a link with a phone number to call in case anybody needs it. http://www.dish.com/entertainment...lcome/#why

If the $15 package had sci-fi I would probably be on board, even knowing how sci-fi channel has gone way down hill.

Gotta have my local sports. I highly doubt this includes any of that.

Ok I just called and signed up. Figured I'd post some more info so you don't have to call to get your questions answered. Apparently there is a 2yr contract with a $17.50 per month left on contract cancellation fee. There are no HD channels included in this package. I was able to get service on two tv's for the same price and am paying $6/month more for a DVR. I believe you must sign up for automatic payments and paperless billing to receive the rate. Also there is some type of online bonus you must register for to get this price. HBO, Starz and one other movie channel free for 3months, plus some blockbuster channel. Best part for me is the dish, receiver, activation, and installation were all free. Although I do have to return the equipment upon cancellation.I hope this information helps someone.

I'm definitely not on a contract and it's 14.99 total.. But maybe your's is the better way to go if you need the installation of the satellite dish (which I didn't), to get installation for free. Plus I didn't get any HBO or Showtime free offers, which would be cool. Just don't forget to cancel before the 3 months are up!
