If you're getting 18650 batteries, it might be worth it to invest in the Panasonic 18650 cells. They're quite a bit more expensive at about $15 per cell, but are of much higher quality.

The cheaper 18650s tend to have inflated capacities on their specs, but the panasonics generally run true to 2900/3100 mah

LSD Eneloops have been working great for me. With the run time of these lights, I've never had an issue, and I always know that my battery is fully charged before I head out (because i charge them). How do you know when your CR123 is at low capacity? You don't, and you're screwed when your light goes out and you need to grab some replacement batteries.

AA or AAA lights are very easy to pick up some alkaline or lithium batteries from any convenience store if you're in a pinch. With CR123 batteries, many people have to order them online (or wait until they get home to replenish). Sure, you could carry spare cells with you, but I'd rather have one less thing to carry.
