Multiple questions on Costco 24 Hour Fitness Certificates

My 24 Hour Fitness prepaid membership expired last week. My past two memberships with 24 Hour I used Costco's All-Sport 2-year certificates. I am pretty sure I am going to buy another Costco certificate, but I am vacillating between the All-Sport ($349.99) certificate and the All-Super-Sport ($599.99 (they don't sell this one on the Costco website, only at warehouses near Super Sports)).

What I have been thinking of doing is getting the $349.99 certificate and then going to the club and offering them, say, $200 up-front to upgrade the 2-year certificate to Super-Sport. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I actually wouldn't be going to the Super-Sport club that often, as there are two 24 Hours that are closer to me that are Sport-level and below.

The reason why I want Super-Sport is because (for those of you who are in Seattle) I live on Beacon Hill and live closest to the downtown and White Center 24 Hrs. But the one in downtown you have to pay for parking (unless you go during the right time when the garage is free or in the evening when street parking is free). The one in White Center is an Express club and it is hella ghetto. I am thinking of going to the Super-Sport up by Northgate a couple of times a month and then go to the one in downtown when parking is free.

Let me know what you think of all this. Thanks.

I thought you couldn't use another Costco 2-year membership if you had been a member in the past 6 months or something?

If I were you this is that I'd try. Buy the $350 certificate and take it in to the Super-Sport and ask them "can I upgrade for an additional $200??". If they say no then take the non-redeemed cert back to Costco and buy the $599 membership. You can return non-redeemed certificates as I have in fact done it Big Grin Plus it states it on the T&Cs.

I thought you just couldn't use another Costco membership if you were currently a member?

The last time I did it, I went the very next week after my membership expired and they let me use another one.

I admittedly don't know for sure but I thought the T&Cs on the physical certificate itself stated that it was only for "new" members which they deemed to be a member that hadn't had an account within the past 6 months. You've done it 2x right? Who knows, maybe you lucked out the last time, or maybe they just don't care, or maybe the T&Cs have changed since I looked at it. Dontknow Worst case though, just return it if they won't honor it.

I do find it strange you can't redeem it in certain states though. I read some people from HI were buying it out here, activating it, and then using it back at their home gym in HI. Kind of stupid but probably some ridiculous state law that somehow precludes you from doing it!

Oh, another thing I thought was lame was they don't let you freeze your membership. I was going to be out of town for awhile and wanted to freeze it but they wouldn't let me so instead I'm just waiting until I get back to sign up for it.
