TWC is now offering free upgrade to their new 20 Mbps Turbo plan for free for 6 months even for existing customers. I was in a promotional offer for 6 months with their old 15 mbps turbo plan for 6 months for $39.99. When it ended yesterday and my current bill showed up for $49.99 for turbo, I had a chat with the csr and the csr offered be another 6 months of free upgrade to their new turbo 20 mbps for $39.99 per month. Try it, best of luck.

Seems to depend on locale. They provided me a Motorola modem/router for free when I signed up for Turbo (which they seem to have given to me as a permanent free upgrade) a while back.
The rep told me for turbo members every person gets free router,so I think it's a national thing rather than locale

You get to retentions by going into the menu and choose current customers and say cancel my account.
How do you get to this menu? Do i sign in? After i click cancel, how do they contact me to offer me a better deal?

In my area (Milwaukee) there is no rental charge for the standard modem (Motorola).
Same around San Diego area, could be any brand of modem they using at the time.

Step by step directions(just did it right now to write this):you call 866-341-5930 then say yes to the first question, then enter zip, then say cancel my account, then say disconnect and you're there

no,there's no sign in. stay on the line, you will be redirected to retentions, they dont contact you for a better deal, you tell them what you want and if it's possible they will give it to you

I do this every 6 months. Call, go straight to retention, haggle for a min and bam.
I used to have their retention number handy, but lost it. can you post it?

This is a pain in the neck and I have to call it every year to keep my rate or threaten by go to what, DSL?.

TWC around here will pretty much tell you to go F yourself. they have no problem disconnecting you. there is nothing else, and they know it.

Yeah I have a feeling that I will have no luck. Time Warner is basically a monopoly in my area.

I will try and call and threaten that I am switching over to direct tv because they are cheaper and have way more sports options. I will say I will switch my internet provider as well.

Anyone have any ideas on the best things to say to retentions? To be honest I don't want to call to cancel and actually cancel lol.

twc "turbo" is suck, i got it last month. it's not consistent lacking up from 12 ~ 16 most of the time, don't even think on upload. After first month, upgraded to Ultimate, and they swapped out the netgear modem for the brand new Motorola, and the line a lot better now, ping better too, no more random disconnect when playing CoD, or D3.
For modem rental, they are charging for $2.50 per month, b4 tax here at Dallas Metro.
Recommend Verizon Fios if available in ur area, the line/ping stable all the time.

for time warner, do you buy your own cable modem or do you rent from them?

thx
You can get your own. In my area they charge only $4.95/month for a modem/router.
The thing is if you get your own modem/router then if you have problem with internet and call them, you will hear, sorry we only give support for our own equipment only!

I'm 4 miles past the south eastern corner of where google is building their network in kcmo. So, it'll be a couple years till they go into our area(south east corner of kc) on there way to Lees Summit. I'd doubt they will stand behind the free internet outside of KC.

Yea, i also need to know what best to say to resention. I'm running 10/1 but started with 3/1 @ 19.99 a month. I'm running VOIP and was planning on going with there basic high speed after nov (0.75 mega bytes per second) @ 24.99. 10/1 only feels faster then 3/1 when i download a big file. Same slowness going from website to website.

I was on 10/1 for years on $29.99, except have to go through the retention every year. My speedtest.net result shows it's most likely bring down up to 30/1 even though on paper it is 10/1. So don't buy in their "turbo" pitch, truth is cable cannot control bandwidth accurately, it all depends on your neighbor.

The problem is after our phone becomes voip, the internet has been essential to household like gas and electricity, except it is not yet as cheap as gas or electricity as in some other parts of developed world.

My friend just signed up (Milwaukee area) and they are clipping him 2.50 a month rental. Plus they didn't say anything about this offer.

I think you may have had a crappy rep,With Turbo they are supposed to hook you up with the New Motorola modem/router free of charge(no $2.50 per month) I live in Dallas Metro too. I think it as the router problem, because the Motorola router they gave me always gives me 20.64 or so and I pay for 20 mbps, so I get exactly what I pay for compared to at&t where I would get 1 mb less than what I was paying for and it wouldnt be stable

dont ever choose to pay more. threaten to cancel but talk to retentions. dont talk to those loosers at sales. retentions should give u free modem/router and turbo free for 6 months
