Thread Details

TWC is now offering free upgrade to their new 20 Mbps Turbo plan for free for 6 months even for existing customers. I was in a promotional offer for 6 months with their old 15 mbps turbo plan for 6 months for $39.99. When it ended yesterday and my current bill showed up for $49.99 for turbo, I had a chat with the csr and the csr offered be another 6 months of free upgrade to their new turbo 20 mbps for $39.99 per month. Try it, best of luck.

for time warner, do you buy your own cable modem or do you rent from them?

thx

You can do either, it's $7/mo if you rent a modem/router from them.
They give you a modem for free. No fees here.

I guess I need to call in I am paying $65 a month for an advertised 15/1 Reality is about 11/1

dont ever choose to pay more. threaten to cancel but talk to retentions. dont talk to those loosers at sales. retentions should give u free modem/router and turbo free for 6 months
I should have done so, lately my time warner services has been lagging, logging me off at times and slow. I complained and they swapped out my router/modem. Damn I should have known as, a veteran SD. I will call them first thing Thanks!

I called retentions and they told me there was no way they could give me a better rate than $37.99 for standard (10 mbps). I pointed out earthlink had a better promotional rate and they said hold while I transfer you to the earthlink department. uhg, they are the only game in town and they know it.

I just called them and they only dropped the rate from $40 before to $34 for 10/1. And that rate is only good for 12 months.
And, they said if i wanted 3/1, it would be $42 and 760k would be a standard rate of $30
Anyone running "lite" 760k?

I am about to transfer over from verizon DSL 7Mbps for $40/month and thinking of time warner as the new provider. I chose the Turbo speed (up to 20Mbps) $44.94/mo for 12 Months. this plan I can either rent their TWC Modem for $2.50/mo or their Home WiFi and Modem for $8.45/mo. What should I do? Should I just purchase my own modem or a modem/router [amazon.com]?

buy your own router.. they go for cheap. cable modem will run you about 75 if you lurk around here. i just saw a thread about a costo deal. previous deals include staples for a modem.

does anyone else think it's "odd" how advanced their technology is getting? i just logged into my account yesterday.. and not only can you view your data consumption by day, but by hour now. and somehow twc reps can identify that i have an hp laptop although i do have their modem. Confused

twc "turbo" is suck, i got it last month. it's not consistent lacking up from 12 ~ 16 most of the time, don't even think on upload. After first month, upgraded to Ultimate, and they swapped out the netgear modem for the brand new Motorola, and the line a lot better now, ping better too, no more random disconnect when playing CoD, or D3.
For modem rental, they are charging for $2.50 per month, b4 tax here at Dallas Metro.
Recommend Verizon Fios if available in ur area, the line/ping stable all the time.
I have heard getting a better modem might of made turbo much better.. comments?
What range of speeds (awake hours) are you getting with Ultimate now?

Will give kudos. Anyone feel free to jump in as well. Wife needs the speed for webpage designing/hosting, ect.
NOTE: Only two providers are for me are TWC & AT&T.

I was on 10/1 for years on $29.99, except have to go through the retention every year. My speedtest.net result shows it's most likely bring down up to 30/1 even though on paper it is 10/1. So don't buy in their "turbo" pitch, truth is cable cannot control bandwidth accurately, it all depends on your neighbor.

The problem is after our phone becomes voip, the internet has been essential to household like gas and electricity, except it is not yet as cheap as gas or electricity as in some other parts of developed world.
Somewhat not true... They can limit your internet speed with the code they enter into their system. Even if you internet speed test hit 30mbs and slowly goes down. Doesn't make your connection are in mid 20mbs. True about neighbor and peek hour use. But they can control your internet speed pretty accurately.

As for other post, rent modem is 2.50 in most area, and additional $5 for wireless router. Most TWC offer free wireless with turbo 20/2 speed and above. Most of the time you can keep pushing for free modem, as most sales rep will try to make the sale and can and might will offer free modem without the 2.50 charge monthly.

If you are getting their 20/2 turbo speed. They should and will offer you free wireless modem. Most likely the doc. 3 Motorola surfboard. Ask for it, and if your area don't allow such promotion, just get their rental modem and go out and buy a 20-40$ wireless modem. 2.50 x 12 = $30, to buy your own modem, would be around 75ish, take 2+ year to pay it self off. But if you have modem problem later in the future with your own personal modem or wireless. They will not help you fix the problem, and will charge you to come out and install their equipment. So personally just get your own router because 5$ extra a month is way too much when router cost as low as 20. Unless you got a HUGE HOUSE, better to invest in some higher model stronger signal modem. Otherwise, twc modem, push them to offer for free modem, and get your own wireless is the best result. hope that help.

yes, I upgraded to Ultimate, and they swap out the brand new Motorola modem (Amazon selling at $140+), use speed test testing speed for the whole 1st week, speed consistenly at 30~31/5+

Sweet, I just did something crazy, I opt for the 50Mbps connection.

So tell me what the model number of the modem/router they gave you?

I thought I was going to buy a asus dual band router... I wonder now though.

Sadly killed most of my monthly budget, netflix is a must now...
Scared to tell wife my plan...

I was paying $39.99 for Turbo back in...April. Moved from Niagara Falls, NY to Buffalo, NY (about 20 minutes away) and apparently I had to sign up as a new customer. Well, I'm not paying $42/mo for 10/1...so tired of Time Warner.

EDIT: 20 minutes on hold for customer service and the guy tells me he can't offer me a better rate. Nice guy, very apologetic, offers to transfer me to retention. The lady asks for my information and within 2 minutes offers Turbo for free for 6 months. VERY impressed. Went WAY better than my last call to TWC.
