Love this movie. Unfortunately that requires me to the deal.

Edited and censored version is FAIL of mass proportions. You don't cut scenes from an awesome movie damnit.

This is an EDITED DVD! Don't support this watered-down version! Get another region release.

Scenes that were edited for US consumption:

* After the scene where the landlady knocks the landlord out the window onto the ground, the original Hong Kong version shows a bit of blood flowing out from under the landlord's face after the plant smashes his head. The American version removes the blood.

* Sing's failed attempt in intimidating a Pig Sty village farmer, who punches him square in the stomach. The Hong Kong version shows Sing spitting out blood, which ends up appearing on the farmer's face after Sing asks her what she does. The American version has both the blood being spit out (but blood is still seen around his mouth implying it was "coming up") as well as the blood splats on the farmer's face.

* During the night scene right before the attack from the musicians there is a long take showing what most of the residents of Pig Sty are doing, including someone crouching on the ground having a "bowel movement". The Hong Kong version shows a piece of paper with excrement on it implying what he was doing, while the American version removes the paper and its "contents", leaving the viewer confused as to why he's simply crouching down with his pants partially down.

Two scenes were completely cut:

* When "The Beast" punches Sing in the chest in the casino, two extra shots appear in the Hong Kong cut, with the first being a slow motion shot of blood spraying upward The Beast's face, and the second being another slow motion shot, this time of Sing's head flying back with blood spraying from his mouth.

* Soon after this, Sing's face is punched into the ground by The Beast, and a several second slow motion shot of The Beast's bloody hand being raised from the ground is shown in the Hong Kong cut. The American cut simply jumps from the shot of Sing's head being punched through the ground to the low angle shot of The Beast pulling his fist up.

Don't buy it! Order from another region (Hong Kong and South Korean versions are UNCUT)!

I have both edited and unedited versions and its not that big a deal. They basically removed the bloody scenes. I certainly would not call it an epic fail by any stretch, but if I could choose between versions I would definitely pick the Hong Kong version (bloody version). You do notice the lack of blood after watching both versions, but then, I've seen this movie countless times and have lots of it memorized.

It's basically like what they did for Kill Bill, tone it down. Being that it is one of my favorite movies, I'm still going to have to find it.

In general, I'm not a big fan of censorship but if it allows more American audiences to witness the genius of Stephen Chow and his "entourage", I think it's worth it.

Fans of this should definitely check out Shaolin Soccer, King of Comedy, etc.

As a rule, american versions always have stuff cut or altered.
If you want a legit HK movie, you need to buy it as soon as it is released on dvd because quite soon after, it is pulled from sale because whatever american company bought it, blocks it from being sold in the original form.
That is why you won't find any of the HK versions of movies they released over here, for sale at places like yesasia.
- And why it will be almost impossible to find a legit copy of Stephen Chow's best movie, God of Cookery. Some retarded american company bought it up and wont release it or allow it to be sold anymore.

Not such a deal considering Best Buy was selling a double feature that included this title for $7.99 for a while.

The blood removal is pretty obvious and dumb as hell. Crap like that screws with the suspension of disbelief. When you divert from the movie and plot to sort out WTF he made that gesture for or why something just skipped or flipped enjoyment level goes down a few notches.

The cut of the Beast's hand is textbook stupid. It interrupts the flow and it's funny as hell.

Shaolin soccer remains my favorite Chow movie, but Kung Fu Hustle is a close second. It's irritating as hell to see them cut stuff for zero (sane) discernable reason.

I know I am not the only Chow aficionado on SD, and if you like Chow's storytelling, this version has a high epic fail probability. I'd rather point it out now so Chow fan's don't fork over cash for something that is going to piss them off. I want to see Chow's story, not Chow's story with some dbag movie studio censors version of it.

Plus the Beast is awesome. Of all the crap to screw with why the Beast?!
