I have this, or the small 60" one, I don't remember. It is not bad for the price, but not great. the leg clips are made of plastic. They have not broken, but sometimes feel like you will snap them off. Also, final (third) section of the leg is a bit thin and wobbles around until weight is put on it. Finally, the ball head cannot support a telephoto lens while in the vertical position -- the camera will tilt slowly downward.

all true, but you would need to pay in the $100 range to get anything better. on the other almost all other tripods in this price range are far, far worse than this and dont even have the ball head. the leg clips are plastic but that has yet to be an issue for me. i haven't had any issue with wobbling or leg stability. yes the vertical position does "slip" with a dslr and a larger or heavier lens. however for the price it feels extremely solid and well built.

this is a perfect first tripod for someone who just got their first dslr, the quality is vastly superior to other entry level options. if you upgrade later, this would still make for an ideal backup or flash tripod.

I've got this combo. Its decent for the price. However I am now in the market for a ball head with more precision control. But you cant go wrong for $30.

For the price, it's great. I used mine pretty heavily over the last year, lots of hiking, rough terrain, etc, and it's still holding up well. I got rid of the ball head a few weeks back (the plate kept slipping with my camera). Got one for my girlfriend too, but the one leg on that fell apart, so not all of them are built equally.

But, for $30, its hard to beat. If you're expecting something you can abuse or mount heavy lenses to, the prices go to $100+ very quickly
