The purpose of this thread is to compile information from different parts of each forum and answer some of the frequently asked questions pertaining to Slickdeals.net.

This list is not exhaustive and will be updated periodically and as deemed necessary, so please check back for updates. If anyone has questions that should be listed here or general comments, please post them. Thanks

  The administrator is always looking for ways to improve the website. If you have a forum you wish to suggest, other than what is mentioned above, feel free to make it known. First, search the Site Issues and Suggestions forum to make sure the idea has not been brought up already. If it has been brought up, post your interest in the thread that already has been created. If you find no threads after searching, create a thread in the Site Issues and Suggestions forum.

• Problem with a moderator? First try to resolve the issue with the moderator. Second PM schooby who is the community relations manager (crm) for this site. The crm is responsible for member & moderator issues.

• How does one become a Mod?
• How to know who is a mod in the forum. Scroll to the bottom of the forum page and you will see the list of mods for that forum.

• Please use the mod alert button for spam/self promo, reposts, problematic and/or rude posts or anything else that violates the rules.
• To see the resolution to your mod alert click here. When in doubt, Mod Alert. There is nothing wrong with bringing a moderator’s attention to something you legitimately thought was inappropriate for you and the other member’s of the Slickdeals community.

• New Users have limited privileges than regular members. New Users posts and threads are also monitored by the moderators. Just participate more in the forums.
• How long does it take until a new thread from a new member will be approved?
• Limits on new user’s privileges can also include:

  *not being allowed to send PM’s (private messages)
  *only being allowed to send one PM
  *not being able to use a custom avatar
  *not being able to use a custom user title (the L1, L2 thing under your username).
  *Sending website URLs and email addresses in a PM is also disallowed for new users.

Most of these limits are in place to deter would-be spammers but usually don’t last too long. So be patient, participate in the forums as you normally would, and soon you’ll have access to just about everything

• What happened to my post/thread?
  If it is missing, it could have been moved to another forum or deleted completely if it was inappropriate for the slickdeals community.
  If you want a specific explanation, please Private Message a Moderator with the information (forum posted in, date/time, title of thread, etc.).
• How to see more posts per page: click here go down to “thread display options” (third box down) go to “Number of Posts to Show Per Page” select the number you want (40 posts per page max) Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.

Is there a way to see all of the reps that I have gotten.....read all of the comments or just the last few? Are the rest lost forever?

Don't be scared to ask questions here. The disclaimer in the title "Please read before creating a thread or posting a question!" is there so people will read before they post an obvious question, like "how do I rep?". But if you tried reading this thread (I know it's long but it is sorted by keyword) and you don't see the question, then post it. In this instance, I would look under the keyword Reputation Points <--- (click to go to all the rep questions) and if it is not there, I would post the question. FYI it's not here, so great question!


The good news is they are not lost!!!


There are two ways to do this:

• First and most easiest-- PM a moderator from this list and ask them. Arjunsr even volunteered
  
  
• Second and not as good-- If you want to see all your reps from a certain post, go to that post and click on your own rep box as seen in this screen shot [photobucket.com]. The downsides to this second option is that you don't know who repped you and when you were repped. Also, this method is post specific, so you have to know the post(s) you were repped in. Not exactly easy when you have been here for over a year.

One of the common questions here is "Why don't we have a section on ......(finance, stock market, movies, travel, CD & mortgage rates, etc.)." Could the reasoning behind adding/not adding new sections be addressed in this FAQ?

Excellent suggestion. I actually had this question answered in a rough draft I created, but wanted to get the admin's take on it and how exactly he wants it worded. But this is a great reminder and I will update it once I have a response. Thanks Xnarg!
