However, if you already have scored a USB 3.0 base on a different SlickDeal, then the bases would be interchangeable. In some cases I bought the external drives just for the bare drives inside, some were 2.0 and some were 3.0, so of course I keep the 3.0 stuff for use if I find another drive like this in the future. As for this deal.. I agree it's lukewarm. I actually only jumped to this thread because I thought it was the 1.5TB portable drive (the 2.5" one that doesn't need a power adapter). Those are now around $100-120 so I figured $80 would be pretty nice. But for the desktop model (3.5" drive with power supply), this is a "if you really need this now, probably not a bad deal, but not great..."

Very nice price.
Never fear! The California sales tax whiner is here!

But if you really wanted the USB 3.0 speeds -- adding this to the $80 definitely makes this deal cooler than lukewarm. My point was that because the bases are interchangeable, assuming you already have picked up (or manage to pick up) a good deal on a Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0, you can use that base for this drive as well. Generally I've seen 2TB USB3.0 for around $100. 3 TB for around $130-140. Deals vary all the time but prices are coming down again after a year of staying high, allegedly due to flooding last year in Thailand. If you are a Costco member, I think they have the deals I mentioned on GoFlex USB3.0 drives right now. |

Bad deal. $50 a month or so ago. This is what I would consider "MSRP" for a 1.5Tb USB 2.0 these days, especially since HDD prices are on the way down. If you think this is slick, please delete your $D account right now.
Yes, it is. Delete your account. Now. Last edited by Ion Control; 08-28-2012 at 02:50 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

No wait, here's one at $68: http://slickdeals.net/f/4938388-S...0100-67-99 Nope, 1.5Tb, and tax-free for many. Dang it. Let me keep looking Is this it? $75 after $25 off @Staples: http://www.staples.com/Seagate-GoFlex-Desk-2TB-Desktop-USB-20-External-Hard-Drive-Black/product_885645?externalize=certona No, OOS because I bought the last one the other day. You're right! $80 for a 1.5Tb IS a good deal. ![]() (As for $50, my Staples receipt says it was June w/ $25 coupon, but I can't find the $D thread. Guess I should have posted that deal? Though I found it here. )
