What Fanatec wheel do you have? I was thinking of getting one of those myself. They seem really nice
Only thing I don't like about Fanatec is that they really don't have a good shifter yet. They spent the larger part of last year working on their CSR line.

They already have the Clubsport wheel and pedals, just no shifter yet. If you do mainly pedal shifting, then ignore everything I just said. Stick Out Tongue

I actually don't have a Fanatec shifter....I ordered the cheapest wheel package a year or so ago back when they had a really good special going, but they sent me a GT2 wheel instead of what I ordered. After many emails back and forth they never actually sent me what I ordered (I also didn't get pedals or a shifter - just the wheel), so I'm using G27 pedals and paddle shifters.

One of these days I'll pick up their CSR Elite pedals and figure something out for a shifter, but I wasn't really impressed by their shifter online...I'd like to find a better alternative. Unfortunately I think that means I'm going to have to spend a lot. Frown

The Thrustmaster shifter is real nice but wont work on the 360. Very few components will work with the 360 actually, Fanatec being the exception.

This is so tempting. I want this + Initial D for my PS3..I would never leave. Thing is I have no idea how I'm gonna mount the wheel so I don't have to sit on the floor V_V.

I used to have a real fast car that spent it's fair share of time on a racing track doing club hpd events. However I traded that really fast car in for a kid. Now I have a PS3 and GT3 and a wheel and a commuting car.

I still have the money to get away with using a fast car that way but I do not have the time to work on that car, the time to take weekends off from life and drive that car very very fast, or the life insurance policy that would cover things if I happen to drive that car a little too fast.

I hope to have those things in place in the future. Meanwhile, when I get a few hours with my PS3, it would be nice to at least feel something remotely close to the experience of doing over 120 miles an hour on rcomp tires going through a kink where the slightest mistake will essentially end your life.

Hence the purchase of this wheel. My current wheel is a GT Pro and while it's closer than a dualshock controller it doesn't have the gear shifter or pedals to resemble real life. With some very minor modifications to the brake on the G27 I should be able to get it close enough to real life for me to really enjoy the time spent playing.

YMMV.
I was in the same boat when I stopped doing track on the bike. No time anymore.

My suggestion would be look into iRacing on the PC. Graphics are not where PS3 is but it is extremely realistic and other drivers are very professional just like on the real track. Experience is as close as you can get to the track.

rFactor, Live for Speed, and GTR2 come to mind as well.

Easy bro grab yourself a wheel mount and set up in your favorite chair. That's my plan.

I picked up a pair of cheap racing seats on Craigslist and built a setup. It's a little sketchy but it works. Smilie

That's a good idea, never thought of that. Those custom made ones are crazy expensive.

There are lots of plans for making custom setups that just require finding a cheap racing seat and some woodworking. I also saw some fleabay sales of PVC setups just for a stand if you're like me and don't have wood working skills.

I can't vouch for any of them but there are a lot of forums that have dedicated posts about DIY stands. And plenty of professionally made stands out there if you're not in that much of a slickdeal mode. Be great to be able to spend a couple grand on a nice sim cockpit but by the time I have time to use it enough to justify it I'll have time to actually get on a real track again.

is this worth it over say a used G25 set on craigslist for ~$120? I'm just a casual/intermediate racer playing GT5... want to upgrade from my $30 driving force pro set that doesn't have a clutch

Why aren't there decent wheels for the 360?

it turns out this wheel has been getting calibration problems with Gran Turismo 5 lately. I am having a hard time trying to cancel the order on amazon right now.
