I always give ESPN a Citibank Virtual Credit that's due to expire in a month and has a monetary limit of one cent. It's totally safe.

Virtual = Disposable CC #'s? Discover Card offers the same thing. If I'm gonna give 'em a credit card #, I'll use a prepaid card.

Basically when u create a virtual account number...citi(or whoever) creates a card number for specific purchases made over the web...so if its for an authorization...like what these membership programs do...they run the card to make sure it exists for the transaction type required and then release the funds directly after...example...they were having a promotion where u get a $10 papa johns gift card for signing up for netflix....i created a virtual account number giving it the max spending limit of 7.99 (how much netflix monthly fee costs) Typed in my virtual account number to netflix...they pre authorize it for 7.99 (the hold usually drops off in a day or 2) once its preauth'd im good with my free pizza and then i simply go back into citi virtual account #'s and close out the account...just incase i have difficulty cancelling the subscription they have no source of funds to rip me off with! Likewise in this case...i came up with a virtual #, got my card # pre authorized then went in and closed the virtual account #. No way i can have any debits to any of my accounts! Win/Win

You can also tell ESPN not to auto-renew the card.. just call the 800 # I think also you can do it on the insider account settings

Looks like it's dead now.

Logged into their customer service site similarly to US weekly and was able to see my subscription. And end date of Oct 23, 2013. Shows as well, that a payment of $26 was sent for this year. Do they really pay that much for our "free" subscriptions? I assumed they did a bulk buy but I guess not...

You'll be able to see your acct # online at the ESPN website and set up insider before you get your 1st issue in the mail. It will take a couple of weeks to get into their system.

Log into the customer service page at ESPN to get your acct #
