When SSD drives were selling like hot cakes at premium pricing, OCZ was one of the first few in the market and was making tons of money on them. They even decided to drop most of their products and concentrate on SSD. I guess like most things, the good times can't last forever. Never put all your eggs in one basket is the lesson I guess. |

This or pay a little extra for the 830? I'm building a rig for my nephew and he'll be playing games like guild wars 2, league of legends and minecraft and that's probably it. No video editing, 3d word program or anything. Should I get this drive for him? (Afraid of data loss for something like say, school work)

Good deal, with a 2.5 to 3.5 desktop bracket, seems...
not taking anyone's rep as granted, but just would like to contribute some now and then. that's the SD spirit imho.

I think it was that they sacrificed quality to rush SSDs out. Their brand took a beating, and people don't associate it with quality products; so they have to sell at a cheaper price than others.
I remember, before SSDs, OCZ was perceived as a pretty good brand. Now... after all the problems they've had with Sandforce controllers... |

Secondly, the Vertex 4 has been out for a while now, which is probably another reason why the 3 is so cheap these days... |

Nice description.
Last sentence of Product Info calls out the Vertex Plus. As Mentioned, the package description says OCZ Octane. At least the rebate is through OCZ directly. The rebate form correctly calls out the Vertex 3. Be aware, 1saleaday is slow to ship things out. I have an order from Aug. 17 that still in processing. The rebate requires it to be postmarked 30 days after purchase, not receipt of product. |
