2. No computer needed. + No USB token needed. 3. All you need is this adapter plug to your Internet connection + a phone. 4. However, you have to read the instruction how to set up the Obi device at the first time. Once it setup correctly, you all set to go. |

I still don't really see the benefit, unless Google Voice stays free for a couple years, since you don't need a computer for the new MagicJack. Steam ID - Big Bad Beasters

You can connect an active land line to the 110 and then use either your land line or GV (or other SIP/VOIP service) throughout your house. Other than size this is the main difference between the 100 and the 110 - integration of an active landline. Also for those asking - this is not a dead product if GV starts charging for domestic N. America calls and you decide you don't want to pay GV. It can be used w/other SIP/VOIP services much like any other ATA but w/some limited configuration options vs. some ATA's. I currently have a 110 set up w/GV, Localphone (for outside N. America and/or .005/min. in USA if GV goes wonky) and a land line. Set one as default, pick one of the other line/service when you pick up the phone w/a button press. It's pretty simple and seamless IMHO. Lastly Obi to Obi calls are free no matter where in the world, we use this feature. You can also give someone overseas w/an obi access (circle of trust) to your USA Obi/service(s)/land line, we use this feature and it works great. Last edited by Redrotors; 08-30-2012 at 03:17 AM.. |

Thanks for that tidbit, never heard that before. Have you complained to MJ? You may want to look into Localphone for international calling. We've been very happy w/it for about 3 or 4 years now. there are many access #'s and you get a USA (local) # for international #'s you call repeatedly so that's handy for use on a cell phone when out and about. I can't see how MJ could possibly block a Localphone type service. |

so basically what you want to do is: obi110's line port -> line from phone company obi110's phone port -> home wiring but again you could damage your obi's phone port if you connect it to an active line, so make sure that the line from the phone company is NOT connected to your home wiring if you're going to connect your home wiring to your obi's phone port. |

I should have been as specific as your last post. Your caution is warranted although I can't see why someone would plug an active land line into the 110's phone port unless they ignore the most basic hook up instuctions on the little sheet that comes in the box. You and I interpreted what kovy was asking a bit differently and since he does not have the product in his hand I thought your answer would read as "no you can't" to him. Sounds like he wants an active land line and I wanted to let him know he can do it, he doesn't have to "make sure the line is dead", all he has to do is follow the most basic connection instructions and if he does he's good to go. I interpreted your response diffrently from what you intended I guess. Anyway if there was any confusion on kovy or anyone else's part (besides me) re your 1st response to kovy and my post responding to you it should be crystal now ![]() If you are using/running your house phone wiring from the 110 the ONLY thing that should have an active land line signal is the LINE port on the 110. There should be no connection to your house wiring from an active land line feed other than through the 110's LINE port in this scenario. There are situations where you could run a line 1, line 2 (two wire ea.) setup through the standard 2 pair wiring in a house where one pair is an active land line but you really have to know what you are doing and KNOW that all the wiring and jacks in the house are wired correctly (and, while not mandatory, you would probably want a two line phone to easily take advantage of the setup unless you are just looking for a hardwire, when the power is out , emerg. only setup). I won't confuse things further except to say that for whatever reason our house was wired w/4pair wire and I am currently using 3 of the four w/ land line and a 100 and a 110 along w/multi line phones. No reason not to. It will pay for it by year end. And chances are free or cheap calls will continue for many years to come.
Porting your old # costs extra and you have to leave your home phone on so I didnt port my old #. Also, 911 is NOT included but you can get it for a few bucks a month if you look into it. (Not via GV or Obi, a 3rd party) Last edited by rjm08; 09-04-2012 at 01:14 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
