60hz and 3D? I thought 3D tv's required at least 120hz.

I like the picture on this TV (it was $499 at Fry's a month ago). However, they cheaped out and left off the analog headphone/audio jack so it only has optical audio output, so if you want to use an old amplifier (one from before the optical input days) you can't. Other than its limited input and outputs and lack of smart apps, it's a pretty good 3D TV.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the answer to this: if you hook up a PS3 or Blu-Ray player directly to this TV over HDMI and play a movie in DD 5.1 or 7.1 DTS HD Master, does anyone know in what format the optical audio output from the TV will be? Or do you always have to hook up a PS3 or Blu-Ray player to a switching HDMI amplifier first?

First and always, I always hookup my PS3/Xbox 360/Blu-Ray Player directly to my receiver for it to receive the highest HD audio (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and Dolby Pro Logic IIz) that transfer from your media players/consoles/blu-ray discs. If you use optical out from your HDTV, then your truly limited yourself to Dolby Digital Audio

Got this TV at Frys recently and love it. The picture quality is great, 3d is fantastic (works with the 3d glasses from the movie theater!).

Does bother me that the only audio out is optical.

Does anyone know if the screen is matte or glossy?

Am trying to decide between this and a second $580+tax LG 50PA5500 from BJ's as a bedroom and gaming TV... (I don't play games in the living room).

Also, can the 3D option be toggled off in case I don't like it?

I am pretty sure all 3D HDTV can be watched in 2D or 3D. usually 2D is set by default at factory then 3D enables when it detects a 3D signal from the media source.

I know hooking to an amplifier is the best way, but I was trying to see if I could avoid buying a new amplifier. I thought maybe some TVs passed the original audio signal unchanged through the optical out, but I just realized that optical doesn't have the bandwidth to do that, so converting to DD would make the most sense. Do you know if TVs convert to DD 2.0 or 5.1?

Certainly a 3D HDTV can display either 2D or 3D, but if you're saying whether a 3D HDTV can play a 3D source in 2D, I don't think so. Otherwise most 3D BDs wouldn't include a separate 2D version. I'm still trying to learn about this stuff myself.

I forgot to mention one thing. If your HDTV supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) that will return audio as well
