**SOLVED!** Convert VIDEO_TS / VOB files to IMovie-compatible format?
So, I'm still fairly new with my Mac, and trying to do some of the semi-basic functions, and am running into a bit of confusion. So, I figured it'd be easiest to just ask on here, rather than fumbling around with it for a few hours ![]() I've got a rip of a couple DVDs (personal video, nothing copyrighted), ripped with AnyDVD to a VIDEO_TS structure. Unfortunately, IMovie doesn't import in this format, and requires other formats instead (I'm assuming Quicktime, etc.). However, I don't know of what good software I can get on the Mac to do so. I'd prefer some free software, as this is more than likely just a one-off project that I'm doing, and I'm not looking to spend $20+ on a converter to use just once. Is the any available freeware that I can use to easily convert from VIDEO_TS / VOB to a format acceptable by IMovie? Thanks! Last edited by ElectroWolf; 08-29-2012 at 07:21 PM.. |

So apparently Handbrake only converts to MP4 / M4V formats; neither of which are the right format for iMovie. While they are now able to import, iMovie wants to take about 4 hours a piece (!!!) to import and "optimize" them for iMovie usage.
Does anyone have a better suggestion of something that can go straight to .MOV, .DV, or something that is better compatible with iMovie? |

What version of OS X and iMovie are you running? If you're still running a version earlier than snow leopard, upgrade and Quicktime X will probably suffice. If you have access to a PC, you might try SUPER [erightsoft.com] |

I decided just to pony up the $20.00 to do so. However, I went to Apple's site to purchase it, and it said that it doesn't install the Quicktime plugin component on Lion / ML. So I'm leery about buying it if I don't even need it! I downloaded the new beta version that's supposed to work with Lion / ML, but it still requires the Quicktime plugin

look closely at the expanding sections of the mgep streamclip site:

So, I went ahead and plunked down the $20, installed the plugin, and am now converting my first clip. So far, working like a champ. Thanks! |
