There are specific settings you need to disable for SSD, like system restore, swap, indexing service, etc... that like to constantly access the drive. Your HD light blinking is probably because you have virtual memory enabled, so it caches/swaps out stuff to disk when memory is full. If reliability is a concern, then you probably should not be buying an OCZ SSD, and get one of the other brands like Crucial, Samsung, or Intel. I think most people here knows the risks, are buying because of the price, know NOT to keep critical information on the drive, and have backups. My Crucial M4 SSD boot the OS in about 6 [youtube.com] seconds plus another 6-8 seconds for BIOS posting (~15 seconds total). This is with a 2-3 year Core 2 computer and limited to SATA II and IDE mode. Programs pretty much load instantly. Even my Atom netbook with a 5400 rpm laptop HD boots in about 28 seconds [youtube.com], so there's other stuff you can optimize. |

I actually just bought an OCZ ssd that I posted for $27, I know it may not be reliable but I wanted something extremely cheap so I can play around to test out the settings, etc, didn't want to spend so much on a drive that I might brick since I have no experience with setting up an SSD, will upgrade to an better brand after I get better at it. |

Man this drive is awesome, I ended up cloning my Agility 3 onto this drive and this drive is performing better on my x120e (only Sata 2 capable). Seeing as I payed like $130 for the Agility 3 8 months ago, what a steal. The agility 3 is now being used in raid 0 on my desktop with my Vertex 4(a mismatch but I chocked on buying another vertex 4 for $80, I bought the first for $150, Doh!) SSD's are fun.
By the way, drive came with most up to date firmware. Putting the rebate in now. |

Finally received mine. Came in a blister pack with no accessories. It has the newest firmware 1.37 so didn't need to update it. Hopefully it was recently manufactured.
115GB, ~107GB usable of free space. Seems to be working fine, but will be doing more tests and benchmarks before putting an OS on it. Here's some benchmarks. It's pretty close to sparkee's benches, but I have slower sequential and 4k-64Thrd reads. I think my testing machine might be only SATA I (1.5Gbps) and limited to IDE mode. Hopefully it won't die. |

mine came DOA.. lol well I tested it with 2 different USB 2.0 adapters.. no drive pops up on mac..?? .. I'm feeling that post about not touching this drive with a 10 foot pole resonating in my head. Damn .. already sent in rebate so no RMA at newegg.. guess ill take it up with OCZ.. speaking of, wasn't there a way to send back and ask nicely for the better version of the vertex 2?.. 25nm/34nm something something OCZ bait and switch business model..

Received my rebate debit card. Happy it was paid out fairly quickly. Was really worried because of the news of OCZ's financial difficulties.
Anyways, my SSD has been running for two months now in my HTPC with no problems. Working well. Pretty happy with it and it was a great price. Wonder if I can request a check for the amount, hate these debit cards. Here's a video of the SSD booting up Windows 7 in my HTPC [youtube.com]. Decent speed, about same as my Crucial M4. |
