I've been running a Vertex 2 since Dec. 2010. Mine is only a 90GB, don't know if there is anything different besides the size, but mine has been flawless. I do quite a bit more than the normal web surfer too. We also run them in laptop's at work for the guys that Demo out software around the world, minor issues but firmware updates have fixed them.
I would not hesitate to go with a Vertex 2 from my experience. |

ofcourse i backup windows partition every couple days. those who dont backup.. well it wont matter whether you have OCZ or XYZ.you will cry.

Seriously, at this price ($39.49 AR), it's a no brainer.. Crap brand, only SATA2? Who cares!
I think this is much better than the front page deal 120GB Vertex R2. The R2 uses Indilinx Barefoot controller while the Vertex2 uses Sandforce. I think most issues are already sorted out by now for the Sandforce, especially this one being a generation behind. ...And I thought Pyro SE 60GB for $40 was a great deal couple weeks back. I might just put this one in my USB 3.0 enclosure since this won't fit in my thinkpad X230T. Maybe I'll just swap out the Pyro 60GB used in my desktop with this one for more space. Edit: Okay, after ordering this, now I'm doing the research, haha. Here's one review [benchmarkreviews.com] of this drive. Typing in the model number, it looks like this is a "OCZ Vertex 2 Extended". Yeah, there's so many names reminding me of Samsung's variety names of cell phone models. This drive looks like it's one of the fastest drives for SATA II generation. Another review here [tomshardware.com] showing the write performance is kind of bad. ![]() Edit2: I had OCZ 120GB Agility2 running fine in my wife's laptop for about a year until I sold that. So I didn't have any problems other than the screw tap not being aligned (poor package manufacturing). Last edited by hp79; 08-30-2012 at 03:29 PM.. |

This is cheap, but the reviews and general disparagement of this brand on Slickdeals makes me question whether the price is worth the headaches of RMAs and dead drives...
To quote one of the reviews on Newegg:

Artificial intelligence is never a match for natural stupidity

I'm just going to use it for a non mission critical computer - an HTPC setup. With a silent power supply and a fanless motherboard, I will have a silent computer. All my important content is stored on the network server, so if I have to re-install, it's not a big deal.
