Are there any deals like this for their W-series workstations? I'm looking for a ~15" workstation laptop for a friend for a gaming development program (they recommend workstation graphics over gaming graphics) and haven't found a ton of deals. They recommend any of the following models (the Lenovo the most notable for this thread):
Dell M4500 Dell M4600 Dell M6500 Dell M6600 HP EliteBook 8460w HP EliteBook 8540w HP EliteBook 8560w HP EliteBook 8740w HP EliteBook 8760w Lenovo ThinkPad W520 |

Fyi the ODD burns bluray not just a bluray reader-cd/dvd burner.
Only drawback (for some people) is its a glossy screen. Im using it on my deck right now in the sun and can read it just fine though as its bright enough. Last edited by bobo_saan; 08-31-2012 at 01:05 PM.. |

Seriously, why hasn't anyone commented on this? It looks like an even better deal because the shipping would be faster (by a lot), it's cheaper, and the only downside I can see is that the hard drive, though bigger (750 GB) is slower (5400 rpm). I don't have much experience with newer laptops, is the smaller, faster hard drive worth going with the original deal over this one? |

Newegg is offering the same brand computer with a little less on it for $799 are rebate and you also get a free gift, which is a $100 backpack. I bought its two weeks ago, and I got it within 3 days after order. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...683424662

I don't mind the size and the weight. In fact i wanted the 17" screen. The performance is fine. I compared a 15R SE with i7/ 7730m and this 17R SE/GT 650m and couldn't practically see any big difference in my line of use. Of course I don't do any CPU demanding work and the ivy i5 is not so low in performance either. Gaming performance considered, the GT 650 won hands down. Hmmmn.. I am going to keep it then.. Thanks. Its just that I get a little cranked up when i see a higher specced machine in a good deal. |

Also the mSATA port is SATA3 so you can pop a nice Crucial M4 256gb mSATA in there (like I did) and install your OS/Progs there and keep the 500gb HDD for storage. You do have to buy your own M2x3mm screw though to retain the mSATA card as they dont ship one with the laptop if you buy the version without the 32gb mSATA preinstalled. Instead of buying one I stole one from the hdd cage of an old Vaio laptop and used it. Last edited by bobo_saan; 08-31-2012 at 01:21 PM.. |
