I think they sent me a confirmation email with a link about satisfaction. I emailed that link about the tax refund since they collected it on a non-taxable item. They tried to BS me, but they didn't know I had the State of California official response about this specific item. I explained exactly how they were wrong and asked for the refund. If they were unwilling, I would put negative feedback and file a paypal complaint. they gave me the tax back.

Tax on items yes but i'm pretty sure you're not suppose to tax on any cards at all.

100% bull. It's not by law, it's by LAZY. They don't want to take the time to set up taxes by category/items. There is no law that says they have to tax untaxable items. This is the kind of BS they tried to sell me. It's 100% false for CA (dunno about other states, but suspect it's BS for them, too).

I hear ya. I dont think they should tax us Californians for the xbox card but they are. California is broke and needs the money to pay it's debt.

CA has nothing to do with this. CA says it's not taxable and doesn't want tax collected on it. This is strictly a buy.com issue - they're being lazy and charging tax that is not necessary.

In fact, it will cost the state of CA morein administration to REFUND the tax (which they will do if you apply for it), so buy.com is actually COSTING CA money by charging tax on small untaxable items like XBLIVE 12 month cards.

I'm surprised no one has taken Buy.com to court. I remember buying this xbox card from them last time they had it and they charged tax. So this time around im just going to avoid the headache of trying to get a refund from them.

It's buy.com , not the fault of CA or eBay. They could simply edit the listing and remove the CA tax. Would take less than a minute.
