Do you need to have 4 consoles to use this or can it be done with 2 or 3?

IE: Could one person just flat out purchase the $100 for 4 years and apply 2 years on 2 consoles?

Only one person is the head of the family plan, and that is the person that is responsible for paying the $100 or renewing using the method I detailed above. My account is the head account, so what I did was recover the three other gamertags that will be on the family plan. All four gamertags must be on the same console while you are setting up the family. After that, everyone on the family can recover their gamertag on their own console.

All four family plan members do not have to be in the same household even. If you want to bring in your friends or family members from around the world, feel free to do so. Just make sure you don't have to chase down people for their share of the $100 every year. We set it up so that two of us each year will buy a card on sale for the cheaper renewal method. Or you can have one person buy cards on sale, and everyone give their money to that treasurer.

The family plan will always give 1 year of XBox Live Gold per each member of the family plan if it auto renews by itself. If you don't use up all four slots, then you can't add the missing slot to a current member's subscription. For example, let's say only three people are sharing a family plan. Since a family plan has slots for four, they can't take that extra fourth slot and divvy up its subscription to the other three. So even without these 12-month cards, it will always be $25 per year for each of the gamertags.

What price hike are you speaking of? IIRC these have been $59.99 msrp for a long time

Cheapest I have seen in a while. They were $29.99 a while ago but that was before the $10 price increase.

In for one. Thanks for sharing this deal. My XBox Live sub expires in January... $35 is not the lowest price for XBox Live but it is a great price.

The lowest it really gets is $30-33. The couple dollars difference is no biggie.
