The "Official" Google Nexus 7 owners thread!
Inspired by the HP Touchpad Owners thread, I thought I would start the Google Nexus 7 Tablet version of it since many of us have moved to the 7" beast or are thinking about. For many of us this is the first experience with Jelly Bean too, so share what you know for the best of the owners community. The idea for this thread is to help others.
I will update more as I think about it. For now Enjoy. Last edited by LiquidRetro; 08-31-2012 at 08:51 AM.. Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

I have one...my favorite app is GTA III for 4.99 from the market. Tip to get it to install proper. Set your screen timeout to the highest allowed (30 minutes?) and then let it download all the files and install and do not touch the screen! Game works great then.

Swiftkey 3 is well worth it if you don't have it already. Kind of lame though that they sell a tablet and a phone version. If you use one on the other it gives you a warning.
I knew this thread was coming and I don't have one yet!!! Doh... Might have to wait until Xmas to pull the trigger.

So is it really true that the Nexus has been handicapped by a slow hard drive and the Droid OS so is pretty comparable benchmark wise as an antiquated HP TouchPad? Any reason why I shouldn't wait for the mini-iPad or Microsoft Surface at similar price points?

1 comment, 1 question
The comment.Don't freak out when you get your N7 and first turn it on and discover that the homescreen does not auto rotate into landscape mode. The device is made that way and most apps will auto rotate or rotate into the 1 position that they are made for. The question, Which free app/game is the most graphics intensive? I'm anxious and curious to see how capable that 12 core GPU is, in combination of such a powerful quad core CPU. ________________ Last edited by RockySosua; 08-31-2012 at 12:03 PM.. |

Suffice to say that the N7 handles it like a charm. |

Best Case
Everybody has a different opinion of what a case should be.I would want something slim that protects from scratches, as opposed to a big thick thing that protects against crashes. I don't plan on playing Frisbee with it. So slim, made specifically for the N7, and if it can stand like most 10 inch tablet cases do, even if it's only in landscape mode, that would be a great bonus. Any suggestions? |

Does yours get a bit warm on the charger side, specially when playing graphics intensive games?
I went to that games link and downloaded most of the free games there. I haven't had a chance to check them all out, but I did play Dark Meadow, and once more, the N7 shines like a brilliant star, for smooth and clear graphics. The thought has even crossed my mind that the giant processor in both this machine and the iPad3, might be the reason for a bit of warmth, and I wonder if it's overkill. For instance, a lot of my friends have TP's, so I tried loading Dead Trigger into mine, to see if it would work well and then let the others know, and sure enough, it plays like a charm. As you well know, the TP doesn't even have half the CPU power when overclocked up to 1.8 GHz, and it's not as if these machines multi task like Windows systems, so is it possible that we have reached a point in technology, that our tablets are coming with processors that are much more powerful than we even need or can use? I know it's a very theoretical question, and I'm not asking for a substantiated reply, just your opinion. |
