The "Official" Google Nexus 7 owners thread!

random question - but i just bought a N7 for my wife (bday), plan on loading it up with her favorite games/apps. She currently plays a lot of games on her android phone (WWF, scramble, etc). Will she be able to play those games under the same account on the N7?

(e.g. play a word in WWF on her phone, a few hours later turn on the tablet and pick up the same WWF game where she left off on the phone?)

Yes should be able to assuming she uses the same account in each game. You should really set up the tablet with the same google account as her phone is using so you can access the same games etc that you have already downloaded/bought on her phone.

My N7 should arrive sometime today. I'm a totally new to tablets, so am wondering what "must have" apps (hopefully free) you'd recommend? Also trying to find a good case that doesn't break the bank. I don't want to root it, but is that the only way to utilize OTG cable/micro sd?... Any other suggestions/advice for a newbie? tia

ETA: found this - "Nexus Media Importer" in the play store for $1.99, it's like stick mount but does not require root

been searching through the Play store on my browser at work, and it doesnt seem like you can view all available game apps and sort by user rating?

Anyone have any recommendations for games for me to load up on my wife's N7?

So far I plan on doing (based on what she likes):

Carcasonne, Rummikub, Words with Friends, Wordfued (yes she loves Scrabble), Scramble with Friends, maybe a physics based puzzle game like Where's My Perry or World of Goo.

Any other recommendations? Free or paid, does not matter. I think I may pick up FF3 for myself

I have only used my OTG cable for a mouse/keyboard so I am not sure. It depends on what your trying to do with it. I picked one up off Amazon for a few dollars. I ended up getting a flipcase from ebay for about $7 that has worked well for me so far.

Should you decide to root, its really easy on Nexus devices and safer than your average device.

As for must have apps it really depends on what your looking to do.
I really like Falcon Pro [google.com] for my twitter app.
Flipboard [google.com] is great for news reading.
Dropbox [google.com] is great for storage
Pocket [google.com] is great for saving content from your computer web browser to read later
I love the Swiftkey Flow Beta [androidcommunity.com]keyboard It's the best of swiftkey and the ability to "swipe"
1Weather [google.com]is a cool weather app that looks great. Eye in the Sky [google.com] is pretty cool too
MXPlayer [google.com] is my go to video player. It plays any file I have thrown at it without the need to transcode it on the computer first.

Thanks guys! I downloaded most of them, plus some games, and several "note pad" apps. Will try all the apps out and then discard what isn't needed. I'm going to read the N7 manual to get familiar with all the functions and hopefully figure out how to customize it to my liking.

I wanted the OTG cable for storage expansion. Prefer to load my movies and tv shows there. I haven't read the link you posted yet, but was thinking of getting 64GB USB 2.0 USB Flash Drive [staples.com]

If rooting is relatively easy then I'd def consider it... What are the true benefits of rooting? What additional functions did rooting add for you?

There are a slew of free card games including hearts, spades, euchre etc. There is also a free version of Family Feud.
