I wrote that review on AVSforum.
The problem with the focus is twofold: 1. It varies from unit to unit (that is based on owner comments ) 2. The unit I received would not let me get sharp focus over most of the screen. I use subtitles a lot so the two most important zones for me are the bottom and center of the screen. On my projector I can not get both in focus. I read that some units have perfect focus. Furthermore, I read that one member said that it is possible to make the focus perfect (well almost perfect). I have focus problems on my LG HW300T but not to the extend of the PA70. I use the HW300T as a second computer monitor and even without razor sharp focus over the entire screen I do have have any problems watching movies, surfing the web or writing. I believe the unit is excellent and worth every penny and more. But there must be greater attention to the big things like: FOCUS! When I take it back to Fry's I may propose that if they fix the focus AND offer to extend the warranty 15 days after it is returned then that would be acceptable. |

FWIW, The Optima HD66 is a good buy at $440 if you can get it. Amazon runs it from time to time and it is well worth it (I am very pleased). Not quite as good as some 1080's I have seen, but pretty close. Like the other guy said, you can have a nice set up for about the price of a good TV (I did panny 5.1 with avr1712). The HD20 also goes on sale at $650 sometimes. I have heard many good things.
For those who think you are going to go thru bulbs, do the math. Unless you plan to watch A LOT of TV or are crazy xbox junkies you probably won't reach the hours on your bulb. Even so, at $440 go get another one. |

But from what I read it is hit or miss. And I don't think a manager will let me just check units until I get one that has at least eighty percent good focus. I tried to get my HW300T is approximate the picture of the PA70G. At 60 inches on the HW300T it was close in brightness but the colour saturation did not match the PA70G. However, when I increased both projectors to about 110 inches the differences shrunk considerably. If LG can put the picture quality (with sharp focus) and the flexibility of the HW300T (350T) in one unit I would be compelled to buy another. Right now I'm frustrated. |
