I would like to buy this Gateway computer for my mother, as it seems like a great deal. Her desktop system, equipped with outdated components, is longer able to keep up with her current needs.

Sort of. The system is certainly up to the task, but the celeron's integrated graphics don't include the hardware post processing (clear video) or the hardware video encryption (quick sync). You need an i3 and up for that.

Of course, a 6450 or 7750 solves those problems easily. This box has a pcie x16 slot for a video card, but it only has a relatively wimpy 220 watt power supply. But that'll probably power the 6450, which uses around 20-24 watts and this system should idle at ~35-37 and peak at ~70-80 tops.

Depending on the form factor, you might also be able to stick one of the 400-450 watt single rail ~$11-20 power supplies and run anything you want.

Sweet deal, I've been buying lenovo celeron G series machines left and right for $200-250. Frankly, about 8 times a year you could get a similar spec system from them for closer to $200, but this is still a great deal considering it'd cost you more to build it, and then you'd have to buy a copy of windows.

Only way you could beat this is with the $35 celeron deal from a while back, the $15 h61 deal from a few months ago, a $10 case deal, the $11 antec power supply deal, the $25 ddr3 ram deal that most people had canceled, etc. This is obviously a lot less shopping and a lot less work.

Before the 'celeron' moaners from 1997 show up, this is simply an i3 with no hyperthreading, a lower clock speed, a lesser integrated video, but it runs very strong. My relatives upgrading from pentium 4's and core 2 duo's are pretty freaking thrilled with them.

Oh wow, that seems to be a nice price. Probably a 5400rpm drive but still nice.

6 core Phenom II and radeon 5750 for $200.

Not sure if you can bios or software overclock that phenom II, but there should be performance to be wrung out of that chip.
