Interesting info. Thanks. I didn't realize that top loading HE did not adjust water level for the load size. I remember the old non-HE top loaders had a knob that you turned to indicate the load size. The front loading HE machines are adjusting the water level based on the load automatically, at least our Electrolux does. We've been using this detergent for about 6-7 years. It was reformulated at some point about 4 years ago, but is still good value. Figure at 275 full scoop loads, you get 550 loads for $13.50. It used to be $12 and came in a plastic bucket, which was great for storing it in while you use it. We still use the bucket, and just transfer the contents of the box into it. The bucket said to use half the scoop for HE, I am not sure if the box does, as it probably cut into their sales (people don't buy it as often). We also use it in the carpet/steam cleaner, as it doesn't foam up, which causes frequent false "tank full" alarms. If someone wanted more scent, you can always buy those Downy unstoppables and add to your laundry (don't put those in the detergent dispenser, says so on the bottle). 5 TV's in the house with Verizon FiOS and we only pay $3.99/month to connect all 5 of them. Thanks to Ceton InfiniTV4 and CableCard.

I like this detergent - works great in my top loader. I bought it yesterday for in-store pickup, which I've done before no problems. But Sears cancelled my order this morning, claiming that it was out of stock in that store. I looked myself and of course, Sears.com still shows it in-stock at that store but its possible that the inventory system hasn't updated yet. The cancellation email did not give me the option of picking it up at another store, so I called customer service. Irritatingly, Sears won't allow me to pick up the order at another store at the price I paid because the order has "already been cancelled." The customer service agent offered to let me pay full price today in a new order and she would put in a request for Sears to credit me the price difference, but it would be a request only, not a guaranteed credit. And then she asked if I wanted to "take advantage of some other great Sears deals." Super irritating.

For those who are industrious, you can try making your own detergent. It took me about 1/2 hour and depending on the recipe you use, it comes down to ~$.05 per load for a liquid detergent recipe to as low as $.01 for powdered. I've been trying it out for a while and the results are pretty good.
