Thread Details

Welcome all! Wave

Given the direction technology has taken us, this thread is looooong overdue. It will house all information regarding printing issues, NOT limited to Brick's, RedPlum, Java, etc. issues, it will also include information about printing to iPads (or other tablets), iPods, and the apps required to use those devices, i.e. AirPrint, Printopia, etc..

I am hoping that those who have achieved success with printing from tablets and i-devices will share their advice regarding purchasing printers that are compatible.

If you are aware of helpful/informative posts on SD regarding this topic, please use the wiki and link directly to those posts so that others can (hopefully) garner some good info, too.

THANKS!!!! Smilie

Coupons.com:

They recently changed their layout and many, MANY people are having issues with navigation, lag, printing, page freeze, etc.

What you can do:
* Access couponsDOT from alternate sites still in the old format such as swagbucks [swagbucks.com], mypoints [mypoints.com] and AllYou [allyou.com]. From there, you'll still have the option to navigate by clicking on specific page numbers and also you've got the ability to change zipcode.
* Follow tip from Tracybeans -
--To avoid having to click “Show More Coupons” repeatedly to see all the coupons, click “Show More Coupons” once, and then hit the space bar about 10-15 times. Each time loads one more section of coupons.

You can also let them know how much you dislike their changes by going to their FB page [facebook.com] and sounding off.

How to link directly to a CouponsDOT coupon:
Click the [ f ] Facebook icon below a coupon. In the new window will be a link http://sharer.coupons.com/?s=XXXXX. Share that link on SD to link directly to the coupon

Printing from iPad (helpful links):

Link [geek.com]

Print from iPhone, iPad or iPod. A very helpful video (from CNET) can be found HERE [cnet.com].

The HP ePrint 7510 comes loaded with the ability to print couponsDOT coupons directly from the printer. (Access it from the front screen) Kind of interesting.

Also, it's working perfectly with the iPad/iPhone and also Kindle Fire. It has its own email address (the printer) where you can email the printer an attachment or email message you want printed. However, I've not yet found a way to print coupons from the Kindle Fire. Working on that one.

This is a post of mine from a couple weeks ago summarizing the printing problems on the other sites...

1. Coupons.com - changed their format recently and removed the zipcode from the coupon page. Also, they removed the ability to click to move forward and backward by clicking on a particular page number. You now will need to click "show more coupons" and scroll, "show more coupons" and scroll, and so on. Good luck getting to the last page.
Workarounds - Click on the tab at the top called Local Coupons to change your zipcode and then go back to the coupons. (Not everyone will see the Local Coupon tab.) To get around the dumb page navigation, you can go to couponsDOT via mypoints or swagbucks and you'll be able to navigate by clicking on next page or a page number. It also gives you back the zipcode option.

2. Smartsource direct links - besides the normal problems some have with only being able to print in certain browsers, recently many are getting an error prompting them, again to download and install the current version of JAVA.
Workaround - try refreshing the page a couple times or closing down the browser and trying the link again a few times and it'll go away and print normal.

3. Redplum - most recently made changes to their site which is also having problems with certain versions and combinations of browsers and java. A pop-up appears saying "We're working on your coupons" then another pop-up saying "We're generating your coupons."
It is extremely slow and for some people it gets stuck and will never get past one or the other of the pop-ups. Try updating your browser, updating java, or trying a different browser. Also, you can completely remove java and then reinstall the new version.

Glad we have this thread now! Has anyone figure out how to print Smart Source or Red Plum coupons with an ipad or iphone etc? I know you need java to print from those sites. Isn't there someway to get that on an iphone/ipad? Or a workaround for it?

Also is it possible to print coupons.com coupons from a direct link or a companies facebook page?

I don't have a wireless printer, let alone one that can connect to smart phones & e-readers but I need to replace my HP ink jet soon anyway.

Can coupons be printed from an android smartphone?

Not going to replace my android phone but am interested in getting a Kindle. Maybe print from that?
Currently using Kindle app on smartphone but e-library is quite large now...

Ok this video was good:

Print from iPhone, iPad or iPod. A very helpful video (from CNET) can be found HERE [cnet.com].

And I figured out how to print from my notepad with my ipad. Just can't figure out how to print from coupons.com. when I try to with the coupons.com app I get this message:

No printers found. This feature requires you to be connected to your local WI-FI network. Please ensure your HP printer is turned on and connected to your local WI-FI network.

My ipad IS connected to my WI-FI and I have been online with it. And my computer is hooked up to my network.

Maybe the folks at Fingerprint can help me. I am getting a brand new HP printer BUT I will be using my HP printer sometimes too.

Edited to add: So I contacted support through Fingerprint and hit submit and get an error message. I hate that when companies have messed up sites where your unable to contact them. Uggh

Edited: Now I tried to e-mail them and got a mailer demon back. Not sure what to do now.

After a lot of frustration a few weeks ago trying to print some SS cpns and being told that my Java wasn't installed or something, I finally gave up. Tried to print the Friendship coupon (friendshipdairies.com), but nothing happened when I clicked "Print" except that I saw a little notice on the bottom left that said "Javascript:void(0)." Too much for me to deal with--I have no idea. But--and this is the interesting part--a little pop-up on the bottom right has come up a few times which said to "update Java" or something like that. Missed clicking it until tonight-- I quickly clicked on it--and I don't know if it will work, but it did "install." So, after that, I went back to the Friendship site. Still when I click on "Print" nothing happens and no page loads, but void mssg. is gone. I'm going to try another browser to see if I can print from anywhere. Maybe the cpn is just dead? But why wouldn't they change the page then?

OK--mssg. still there in IE and FF (not AOL)--but I give up.

But you still have to be in the correct zip code, or the direct link doesn't work. Dumb, I know.

There's a pop-up you need to allow that comes up right after you hit print. Try holding the CTRL button down while clicking print. Sometimes that will bypass your pop-up blocker. Otherwise, look in the top of your browser window to "allow" the pop-up. Hope that helps.

Does it still complain about Java not being installed, or are there any other messages it gives?

Does the site ever present you with the loading screen like the one I attached?
