To fix #1, you can run the PTV as a second display not a mirror (Not 100% sure how this technology works). The problem is you are mirroring your main display and thats why it resizes.
This you might try to fix #2 are to make sure your wifi network is on a clear channel, make sure everything is on an N Channel and you don't have any G devices connected to your N network when streaming, assuming you have a single radio router.
If this was me I would probably sell the PTV and look for something else. A cable is your cheapest solution, A dedicated streaming box that plays files off a network share might work better like a WDTV live and those will always play stuff off usb which works great. I am personally looking for the perfect solution and have found most of the streaming stuff (intranetwork) to have some performance problems with wireless.
