If I recall correctly, the korean monitors use a lower grade panel, therefore not equivalent.

there are 27" IPS monitors on ebay for roughly $300. but these only have a dvi input port and no hdcp. so you can't watch protected media on these monitors without using a program like anydvd. for about $400 these same monitors come with hdmi and so you can watch blu rays.

i don't have any experience with ebay monitors or the dell one. but don't forget to consider the convenience of buying within the states regarding warranties or dead pixels and returns vs overseas.

I've got a catleap and the build quality of everything aside from the panel itself is crap. The bezel, the inputs the internal wiring is all cheap and poor quality.

It will run you about $600 for a Korean monitor that has all the features & options of the U2711 (ebay search for Crossover 27M). And even then they are still only A- panels so you don't get the 0 dead pixel guarantee offered by the U2711.

The comparison is not that disparaging.

I would probably compare a Toyota Camry to a Lexus ES 350 or whatever it is now, built on the same frame, branded differently with different features. The Dell much like the Lexus is much more refined and has many more features, but either will get you from A to B and the Korean equivalent will display the similar quality picture, I have one, I know.
