The performance between those cards is very close, let price be your guide, or if you have a Crossfire/SLI capable motherboard, go for a specific brand, because in two years, you'll be able to boost your performance cheaper with a second graphics card than upgrading to a bigger single card. Why do you not like nvidia? Because until recently, the 670/680 cards were a hell of a lot cheaper for the same performance. If you google search for the 670 vs 7970, you will find more discussions than you know what to do with. Whether the GHz edition is worth it is dependent on how much you value your money vs the performance increase. Yes, it's faster than the regular edition, but it's more expensive, so . . . how much do you need that speed? Are you really pushing your computer to the limit with games, or are you like one of those old guys that buys a Lamborghini just to drive it to a nearby restaurant in town? You won't see a difference between 80 fps and 100 fps for example; it's all bragging rights by then.
