Deal is dead.
Update: No order cancellations yet.
Update: Credit cards have been charged.
Update: Orders placed prior to 10PM ET appear to be released to manufacturing. Orders placed afterwards are processing (fingers crossed).

Lenovo.com

1) Configure a X230 (laptop, not tablet). Works on "ThinkPad X230 Laptop " and "ThinkPad X230 Laptop with Faster Processing".
2) Change the processor to the slowest option, Core i3-3120M, and leave it there. The price on the right will reset to NA.
3) At this point, you have to add components until the price reaches the ordering systems minimum price (somewhere around $550, at which point NA changes to the price of the system, which should be a good $600 less than normal). Accessories and warranties seem to work differently and appear to raise the minimum price.

If you don't add enough stuff to make the NA turn into a dollar amount, you will be able to add the laptop to the cart, but it will not be orderable. It will throw an error and tell you to contact customer service. So make sure NA changes to some number before adding to the cart.

I added the following and got a price of $628.

-Premium HD display, 2x2 antenna
-4GB DDR3
-Backlit keyboard
-320GB HDD
-ThinkPad Series 3 Ultrabase
-DVDRW for Ultrabase
-6 Cell battery
-6 Cell external battery
-Bluetooth 4.0
-Intel WiFi 2200
-Webcam

The cheapest system I could configure was $558 (that was in "ThinkPad X230 Laptop with Faster Processing", but that option forces Windows 7 Pro, so it may deliver a lower price but you won't get as many accessories/upgrades).

Note: If you add and then remove the ultrabase, you will need to start over. The price will stick at NA. Make sure you add the ultrabase and don't remove it.

Amazon payments and PayPal failed for me, but Lenovo checkout worked just fine. Got confirmation email a few minutes ago.

Good luck!

Check your order status http://ovp.lenovo.com/lenovo-ovp/...dex.action

A word about minimum price:
Lenovo apparently created a minimum price that you must meet when configuring a system (probably to prevent pricing errors from going through). If you fall below this minimum price for a single system, the cart will throw an error and it won't let you order. Manipulate the system components (not warranty, software, or accessories). Once you reach this minimum, the NA price will disappear and you will be able to add it to your cart and order the system. Accessories do not appear to count toward the minimum price of ~$550 because the minimum price is enforced to the system, not to your entire cart contents. Accessories, warranties, and software are considered additional line items, whereas things like memory and hard drives are included in the system.

Good config here:

My X230 burned out the night of Sandy. shipped it out to the repair facility on Nov1 - its been sitting there for 10 days and I heard yesterday that that they don't have a MB or the i3. Ordering a replacement with i5 and multitouch screen with Win8 all other specs the same.
25 days w/o the laptop for a crummy upgrade.

If you guys ever have a problem with the MB or processor I think you will get bumped to an i5 as well, the CSR told me that the i3 is no longer available,

I can confirm the i3 is no longer available. We can't see it for an order option from Lenovo thru work. We checked with our rep & they confirmed out of stock.

Did anyone get a machine with either dim video or no video? We received quite a few thru work that way, that required service calls that ended up being a replacement motherboard.

so they replaced the MB for your defective units - this was an i3?

BTW - I got the defective unit back today which I am supposed to return after they ship a replacement. Whats insane is the report that came with it - apparently all tests have passed. I haven't the foggiest how because the MB is still bust it doesnt even power on.

We had a few seed X230 machines that had bad displays. We shipped them to depot to be repaired and they came back as the newer X230's with i5's in them. Completely new machines, our asset tags (company tag) was not on the machine and serial number was different. We didn't get an explaination other than faulty mobo and they replaced the machine. This was for 2 units. Our current order of X230's come with i5's standard.

I just now had my transaction show up on my credit card. 2 months later, I thought I had 2 free laptops. Still waiting on the 3rd transaction to show on my other credit card. First transaction went through right when it shipped.

What does released to manufacturing mean? Did my order get rejected and went back to the manufacturers or something because it should be out for shipping already!

Has anyone managed to get a Windows 8 upgrade rebate or credit on their purchase? All I can find is the option of paying $15 for the upgrade.
