I believe this is the lowest price offered.

Pogoplug POGO-B01 Media Sharing Device (Pink) [adorama.com]

Pogoplug POGO-P21 Media Sharing Device (Black) [adorama.com]

$18.50 each with free shipping

Note, there have been some reports from J&R and Buy.com's deal that members were receiving the E02 model when they purchased the P21.

I've outlined the specs in a table below:

ModelCPURAMSATAARM
P21700MHz Dual Core128MB1x Internal?ARMv6
E021.2GHz Single Core256MB ARMv5

Make sure to check the label on the bottom of the Pogoplug for the model instead of the label on the box. The one I bought from Buy.com was labeled as P21 on the box but was actually an E02 according to the label on the foot of the Pogoplug.

- *insert more info here

b) after custom firmware/OS?
- torrent?
- samba file server / miniDLNA media server / LAMP server / whatever you can do with a very slow linux terminal.
- *insert more info here
- Penetration testers drop system to get reverse access to corporate network: http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?pag...ug-dropbox

Nope, they're both crap.

I mean in terms of wifi or internal sata port or cpu/ram differences. I disagree with you on the crap because I have used one in the past and it is a pretty easy solution for a roll your own dropbox like device

I would argue that from a reliability standpoint Pogoplug is nothing like Dropbox. At least that has been my experience.

Of course, my needs are a little more specific than most. For a home user that wants to add network storage, it's a good enough starter product.

I've outlined the main differences in the OP. The B01 IIRC should have the same specs as P21.

Well for this price point we can not expect enterprise abilities. I would say this is targeted to home user starting out

is the E02 model better in terms of performance (going from dual core to faster single core) and more ram?

essentially is it worth getting the black for the chance of getting the E02?

don't quote me on this but i think if not everyone, most who ordered the P21 from the recent J&R deal got the E02. I'm not sure if that was a error on Pogoplug's end. also, i think some even preferred to get the E02 based on a few comments.

there are some benefits if u want more RAM (E02). It all depends on the user's needs. i set up mine with SAMBA but noticed the speeds weren't what I hoped for (around 10-13MB/s) I paid a lot more for something better: Synology DS212J. However, for starters, the pogoplug software isn't bad at all. if you want to go a little further and have some background in linux, definitely go and put on Archlinux

I have been wondering how does this compare to a USB storage drive attched to E3000 router...

I could attach a Pogoplug to E3000 and a USB drive to Pogoplug

or I could attach a USB drive to E3000 directly

some people in AMAZON.com also report they get P21 labeled on box but E02 labeled on the device.
I ordered a P21, not sure which one I will get....
