Hello, just wondering if this is a good 1st tablet to own. Been waiting to buy my wife one so she can use, basically for portability and watch shows, browse web, cooking recipes, etc.

Bhaa where is the flame 7 deal. Currently have nexus 7 16gb waiting to switch over to flame for hdmi and sd slot. I don't run anything cpu demanding so dual core should be fine. I would get crystal if it had same resolution as nexus.
Btw this tablet has plastic back with plastic front panel(Cheap plastic not thick plastic like nexus) Wish they can spend extra 10 bucks to make it glass front and aluminum back. |

The Crystal is just a fine machine, and the plastic back is better IMO. My Asus Transformer had a metal back and had so-so internet range - plastic is better. For $32 difference you get more features on the Flame, not speed as they use the same CPU. You want better? Spend more money. Buy Japanese/Taiwanese/Korean - better quality and a lot higher price. All you have to do is research a bit and find your Flame at a decent price. It's just lazy to complain about not finding your "price." |

If anyone comes back looking at this thread I got my Ainol Crystal a while ago. I bought it fully expecting to have some problems and just have some fun loading ROM's and maybe use it as an eReader.
Turns out it's a pretty nice little tablet. The screen looks good but it's not super responsive, but it does have 5 point multi-touch. I don't think the problem is with the screen but with the operating system, so a custom ROM might fix it. It plays most games I've thrown at it. I'm not a heavy gamer but it runs Asphalt 7 and Dead Trigger, as well as less instensive games like Angry Birds and Jetpack Joyride. I've also hooked it up to a monitor through the HDMI out to watch videos and play games which is cool. You can find custom ROM's here [slatedroid.com] and I'm using CM10 at the moment. Overall, I'm happy with the tablet but there are problems with it and you will need to be willing to install Custom ROM's, know how to use Titanium Backup and occasionally do a "wipe data / factory reset." So I would not buy this as a beginner, unless you buy it as a cheap way to learn about the world of Custom ROM's.
