I love this rifle! Got one for around $150 and it shoots great. I've put several thousand rounds through mine and have never had a problem except the rare "stovepipe" that I think is common for most 22s in my experience. Very accurate and you cant go wrong with this price. Too bad they dont ship to Cali, I have friends that need to get one and stop using mine!
Please help me get some rep up!

The 795 arguably shoots straighter due to different rifling in the barrel. There are many discussions about this around the net you can read, and I'd say even most Ruger fans admit the Marlins shoot at least a little straighter out of the box. Both guns have various things going for them, but if someone just wants a "cheap but straight-shooting plinker," I think the 795 is the obvious way to go. I don't think this price is all that great, but if prices are up overall lately, then maybe it is. Though you can also get the Savage for the same price this week in their flyer. And if someone wants a wood gun they may want to spend a little more and get a Marlin 60, (60 uses a tube to feed, not mags, so that's also different). The 10/22 is fine, but all last year you could get TWO 795s for the cost of one 10/22, so, yeah. Last edited by Deusxmachina; 09-07-2012 at 12:42 PM.. Joe Biden says Buy a Shotgun! Wackiness ensues! Some of the pros for the Marlin vs. Ruger are:
Better accuracy out of box due to rifling Cheaper by quite a bit especially on sale and the Biggie being "Last Shot" bolt hold open which the Ruger lacks. Some cons are: Not as many aftermarket toys Trigger arguably not as good as 10/22 Mags are more expensive Still no truly reliable extended capacity mags For my money the Marlin is a better deal off the shelf though. The only problem with this deal is that it is B&M only and there are no Dunhams for me locally.
![]() I already have a couple 10/22's that are a blast to shoot, so now I'd like a couple of bolt action 22's. Last edited by diveborg; 09-07-2012 at 04:19 PM.. I like to take photos, Underwater [brobertson.org] Rep questions? Find the answers in the Unofficial Rep Guide |

The 10/22 will normally be a little more expensive than the Marlin, but not significantly. If you don't plan on lots of mods/accessories, get the one that feels better to you. The Marlin is a good gun too. I have a Remington 597 which I love and many reviews say it is more accurate out of the box than the 10/22 (take that with a grain of salt). It is much more comfortable for me to shoot since I didn't plan on modifying it (other than a sling) and is very accurate (it hits what I point it at, I am just not that accurate of a marksman.) I got the same deal 2 years ago but even cheaper after rebate ($100). I'm not a fan. It feels so cheap in your hand, constantly jams, and the mags are very pricey and hard to load.
I really, really, really wish I would have bought a gun with a tubular magazine and wood stock. Tubular magazines are great because you can load it in seconds with one of these: http://www.cheaperthan The original eye!

I bought one of these last year. It shoots tight 1" groups at 50 yards. The scope is worthless, but once sighted in with a good scope it is a nice, accurate, synthetic stock .22 rifle. The magazines are tough on the fingers, but you can buy a little plastic speed loader clip at amazon that makes loading a breeze.

Guys make sure you inspect them well before buying/transfer paperwork.
I've been hearing of some upset marlin owners since Remington bought them out a few years back. Maybe nothing but then again maybe something just check'em real good. I've got 2 marlin 60's and they're great rifles but they're also older and was built at the marlin factory not Rem. If it ain't on slick deals.. i ain't buying it.
