It's obvious. George W. Bush was a member of the "former" Republican party. That party no longer exists - now we have the "new, improved" Republican party that will fix all of the socialist, racist, gun-taking, and anti-business policies of the Obama administration by doing things entirely differently. Yes, you're right. This GOP campaign, like the one before, continues to distance itself from the Bush administration. The problem is that they are distancing themselves for the wrong reasons. It's not a tacit acknowledgement of failed policy. No lessons were learned. The policies are right as a point of ideological dogma! Rather, it's an acknowledgement of the political reality that such association will cost votes. It's a bit cynical, but I can't say that I disagree. Voters are more likely to make the personal association with the Bush administration than to notice that the policy perspective is little changed.
