i have an older tv that only has component video, would this receiver be able to convert hdmi inputs to component video?

There is NO, repeat, NO receiver on the market that will convert HDMI to component. Time for a new tv!

I am holding out for the Denon 1913 to come back for $299. A wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better receiver than this one...

Fry's had it again last week for 299. Just keep a watch they do this periodically. I got one about a month ago for about that price.

As I recall the cnet review on the Onkyo was very positive, regarding its performance and features but that sited that there are significant reports from purchasers of hardware problems. It is hard to put it into perspective without a true survey.

Yes, Cnet gives it high marks for features and performance, but that doesn't mean JACK if it is not working correctly. Quite a few complaints over at AVS as well.

First and foremost it does not have the issues that the Onkyo does. It also runs cooler. Feature set is about the same, but reliability wise the Denon is better. I used to be a HUGE onkyo fan, but starting with their "7" series they just had wayyyyyyyyy to many issues and I bailed to a Denon 4810 and then later a 4311. The 4311 was no picnic early but within a few months it had all its bugs worked out and has been perfect in my theater system downstairs..

Do your devices (Cable box, DVD, Game...) have component out? Just use that to your receiver via Component and then on to your TV.

Get an older Harman Kardon receiver on Craigs and will work / sound great!

Biggest feature difference for me- the Denons at this pricepoint have a version of Audyssey Room Correction that will EQ the subwoofer:
1613 and 1913 (Which Fry's had for $299) have Audyssey MultEQ
1713 has MultEQ XT

The Onkyo only has Audyssey 2EQ, which does not EQ the sub.

I am already running my video inputs directly to the tv but my tv only has 2 component video inputs so I am kind of limited as I have more than 2 HD devices. Guess I'll wait until I get a new tv, instead of trying to deal with my old plasma tv.
