no person in their right mind will let go of their golden goose these days. If you want to read up more about it, check out flyertalk's forum as there are tons of people that try and do this. There are secrets that run among the site that people will not discuss in public as they dont need it going viral. I have tried to think outside the box many times and there just isnt anything I can find thats worth a crap.

even with the coins, getting decent rewards amounted to a huge PITA. As I recall there was a per-order limit (eventually) of somewhere around $1k, and you could only place an order so many days (yes I guess you could create multiple accounts, etc). Let's say you could get 10 orders in a month - netting 1% (let's say) of $1000 10 times is a mere $100. $100 is $100, yes, but let's not forget that you also have to receive 10 orders and haul them to a bank, which takes time, and is at best free but most likely would require gas money. Even if you collected orders and went to the bank 2-3 times a month, you're probably still spending a few hours managing it all.

Yes I did the coins briefly - before the order caps. I'd do about $5k/month at the time, but honestly it was more work than it was worth, especially when some banks would outright refuse to accept coin, or they made me remove it from the wrapper for counting or even worse made me feed it through a counting machine (in case you don't know, many counting machine's have a 100 coin limit on $1 coins, meaning $1000 is 10 bag changes).

This was all on top of the mint's very poor order management system - at the beginning it would take them a couple weeks to process and ship an order; the account management system was horrible, and at times orders would be cancelled without reason.

Sadly since Venmo began charging I've been able to do this a lot less Was a good run while it lasted though!

People were getting 100's of thousands of flyer miles which were worth much more than the 1% cash back. $15,000 airplane tickets was much better than the $1000 cash for turning the coins
