Thanks calistyle! TU & Rep +1
I hated that I missed the lightening deal earlier this week and this is only about a $1 more (http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/7...?#comments). As of note, B&H seems to have the 5 port version of this switch on sale as well - $18.95 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pro...witch.html). Both seem to have good reviews... I got in yesterday. Plugged it in with my Killawatt and dang, it only consumed 1.6 Watts! My old one consumes almost 10 Watts!
I joined slickdeals to save money but on the contrary, I spend money on things I don't even need and eventually end up in Goodwill or the trash.

My old gigabit switch like this one didn't have an indicative front panel, showing actual connected speed, never realized all my connection was at 100MBps, instead of advertised 1000MBps, until one of the Windows 8 OS utility shows actual connected speed . Hastly believing that it was old hardware not keeping up to specified speed, I upgraded to this switch, but the network throughput never improved, still showing 100MBps, until I realized the fault was at the cable not the hardware; I should have replaced all network cable from CAT5 to CAT5E or CAT6 type. After spending days in cable changes, the connection speed now is up to 1000MBps, but actual network throughput didn't improve much, due to old hardware, especially connection to RAID5 configured network drive. This stupid upgrading thing doesn't stop at meager $20 buck, will cost thousands, before I can realize the benefit of higher throughputs.

A scary review of customer service on newegg [newegg.com]:

This switch works fine as advertised. To really leap the benefit of higher networking speed, you need to think about all your connected hardware, not just a switch; switch is just one device out of many. |

Thanks, i decided i wanted one of these and was waiting for a deal.
a solid device with a metal case that gets great reviews. I dont think anyone can go wrong with this (as long as you need one. ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
