It seemed like we needed a thread just to talk about all the questions, hints, gotchas, and so forth that will inevitably arise with the nationwide rollout of "The Card".

Post 'em here! Big Grin

I'll kick it off. It looks like the "Earn 10 points for every $1 spent" from the test market has been left out of the nationwide program ??

Walgreens Balance Rewards Program phone number: 1-855-225-9225

Balance Rewards Terms and Conditions [walgreens.com]

Balance Rewards FAQ [walgreens.com]

Earning Points:
- Receive points on certain promoted items
- Receive 500 points per Rx filled
- Receive 20 points for every mile walked/run under the Walk/Run with Walgreens program and 20 points per daily weigh-in. (Walgreens defines 1 mile as 2,000 steps; max 1000 points/month); Limit 20 points per mile, 1,000 points per month. Limit 20 points per log, one log per day.
- Occasionally, there is a promo for overall spend (i.e., Spend $75 get 10,000 points)

Card:
- If you sign up on the website, you will not automatically be sent a card.
- A physical card is not required, though it will probably make your transactions go faster.
- If you do not have a card, then you will use your phone number.
- Pick up a card at any store and they can link the card to your account.

Availability of Points:
- Points are credited immediately and you can use them on your next transaction - unless the system is “Offline” - but Offline has not been reported since launch week.

Redeeming Rewards:
- After any transaction, tell the cashier you want to redeem points. You will then make a selection on the PIN pad. The value is credited to your transaction instantly.
- Redemption Value is like cash; it does not reduce your sales tax; however it can be used to pay the sales tax.
- Official Point redemption Levels: 5000 ($5), 10000 ($10), 18000 ($20), 30000 ($35), 40000 ($50). These levels will appear on the pin-pad.
- Semi-official: 1000 ($1), 2000 ($2), 3000 ($3). These choices are not available on the pin pad. The cashier will have to press Redeem Points on the screen.

Other items of interest:
- Card is required to get the sale prices. In-Ad Coupons (also known as IVC) will require both card and coupon.
- Points offers are apparently unlimited unless stated in the ad.
- Register Reward program is unchanged for now. Card is not required to get RR or redeem RR, but is required to get any sale price.
- If an offer says buy X get Y points, you can buy multiple X in the same transaction and get multiple Y points.
- If an offer says buy X or more, get Y points, then you will only get Y points no matter how many X you buy. (But, some exceptions have been reported.)
- The periodic $/$$ coupons ($5 off $25, $10 off $35) will affect proportionally "buy $X get Y points" deals.
- Adding items to cart on walgreens.com is a very handy way to evaluate how many points you will receive for any given items.

Restrictions and other worries:
- Using any amount of points value or store credit card (W card) to pay means no points earned for any items in your ENTIRE transaction.*
- Card can be scanned about 20 times per day. Beyond that will require a manager override.
- Points can't be earned on the standard list of excluded items (alcohol; dairy; tobacco; stamps; phone/prepaid cards; etc.)
- Points can’t be spent on the same standard list of excluded items, including prescriptions
- No points on prescriptions in AR, NJ, NY; instead you get 10 points per $1 spent on certain OTC medications
- Returning items will result in deduction of any points awarded for that item.
- Returning items that were part of a Buy $X get Y points type deal, even if only one small item, will cause all Y points to be deducted.
- System will not allow points to be used to purchase gift card.
- Account must have activity every 6 months or all points are forfeited; a $.10 filler item purchase will preserve points balance. Points and rewards expire three years after they are earned or if an account has been inactive for 6 months.
* Exception: In Dec 2012, there was a deal where you earned 2500 if you spent 10000. This was a specific exception to the rule that was promoted in the store.

Program features that have been eliminated or changed:
- The Test Market program offered 10 points for every dollar spent. This feature was removed from the national program.
- The Test Market offered deals of the form "Receive 10x Bonus Points" on certain items. This went away too.
- The Test Market had a catalog of prizes for which you could redeem your points. This was also removed.
- The Test Market had a feature called a "Clipless Coupon". This was a nice feature where you got the IVC prices without needing to present the IVC. Also gone.
- The National Program, at launch, had a feature where you could redeem more points value than your amount due. For instance, you can redeem $20 worth of points on a $19.93 transaction and eat the seven cents. This was handy in some scenarios. This feature was removed in 5/2013.

To sign up online:
Link [walgreens.com]
- Can use phone number provided during signup at register

Missed points:
- If you forgot to scan your card, login to the walgreens site and enter them there. You supply the RFN# from your receipt. For amount you should supply TOTAL + MFG COUPON SAVINGS.
- Manager can scan a 500 point bar code to make up for missing transaction points.

I believe a workaround for not wanting to use your real number or take a chance on a made up number actually belonging to someone else would be to use a business phone number. My place of employment has one incoming number that customers call, but a lot of actual lines with phone numbers that in no way will be connected to any other actual person. I plan to use the landline number in our stockroom for hubby's phone number since I already tied our landline number up with my card.. What do you all think of that plan? Am I missing something? (Other than having to remember it that is. laugh out loud I will take a Print Screen of his online signup so I can go back and check it if I forget.)
Works for me, I use the fax machine number at work. Wink

Between 9/16 and 9/30 you don't have to use the card for sales prices, do for points to be earned, but starting 9/30 you HAVE to have to card for sale prices according to the Managers I have talked to.
Thanks. I thought 9/16 was date for sale prices. Owe you another rep!

I signed up online using my cell number. I already had a wags account so they already have all of my personal info.

I already juggle 3 CVS cards and 3 RA cards; I don't think I can manage more than one wags card until I see how all of this is going to play out.

GAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Head Bang
Thanx! Wonder if they can get any info from the cell number?

WTF? I clicked link to sign up for card, and up comes screen saying I have account with them. (I didn't remember that I had). Gives my user name and password (dots).

So. I try to sign up for 'new account' and if I only give a TN and zip code, it wants name, email adr, date of birth, etc. Wont go thru unless I give rest of info.

How did you all sign up with just a tele number and zip code??????????

And to add that if I try to get into site by 'signing in', it says my password or username is invalid. ugh.

eta #2...You need to use your email adr as username. If signed up for Wags before July 2010, then you need to change user name to email adr.

I just wanna give a phone number and thats it!??!

They created a different account for me every time I checked out with my phone number. Now I have three accounts, and every time I use my phone number it opens another account so I can't access earned points. I called the 877 support number and they combined all three accounts, (Each with rewards points) but combined them into an account with ZERO points, then hung up on me. Lost 10,000 points after sitting on hold for 35 minutes frirst time and now 47 minutes (still no answer) this time.

EPIC FAIL.

What a huge hassle. Did you register your phone number online? I'm wondering if pre-registration online might prevent this from happening.

Why didn't they ggive you a card the first time you used your phone number? Wouldn't it track by card number then, and perhaps not opened another account each time?

I still cant register online, as it keeps showing my previous info. Wonder if I try in Google Chrome Incognito if that would help because it wouldn't match me up/remember me from sign in from years ago?

when I signed up they asked if I wanted the card as it wasn't needed as I could give the telephone number.Confused Glad I opted to take a card.
I just tried to link my AARP card to the Balance card but it gives me a message that it didn't work, but in the address bar it shows Your AAPR (sic) Information has been saved.
Signed back in and went to profile and it took it there.

I wouldn't expect the cashiers to have a "house card" to scan, since there's too much profit to be made for non-card scanning transactions.
I work at WAG... I can confirm there is no house cards allowed. We are barred from scanning our own and if we continually scan a card throughout a day we'll get flagged and management will be notified.

No Card = No Sale prices starts Sept. 30th

You also need to enter your zip code when redeeming points!!! This will help to not allow others to use
your points.

Wow. I signed up online several days ago when I first saw it. Glad you said something because I need to pick up a prescription today. What number do you use? I don't have a card yet.
For pre-regisered users, you enter the phone number used on the online registration, they scan a new card at the register and both are connected.

A few interesting statements in the "term and conditions" brochure:

1) "Once Points are redeemed, Points cannot be credited back to a member's account. When returning items paid with Redemption Dollars, the Redemption Dollars will be refunded to the Member in the form of Store Credit."

2) Points will not be earned in a transaction where Redemption Dollars or Store Credit is used."

Two questions: Will "Stored Credit" be issued in the form of a gift card (like CVS does)? If so, will points not be earned if a gift card is used for payment?

I used my gift card and received points. Don't know about the first part though because not sure of the difference between a W card and a Walgreens gift card.

A Walgreen's Gift Card is like any other store Gift Card. You 'buy' it. You put whatever amount of money you want on it and use it like a debit card.

A W card is like a CVS 'Money Card'. They give it to you with the appropriate amount of $$ on it when, for instance, you do a return and its not paid with cash. (I guess if you pay with credit card, they credit back to your card) I don't know any more details. Maybe when you don't have a receipt, one is issued. Perhaps someone else can add more info.
