Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 16gb refurb + New Keyboard dock, desktop dock and SD card reader for $249 + Tax
Somebody stole my galaxy 8.9 from the gym (gotta love it. people you see every day) so I was looking to replace it. Cowboom is a ripoff ($180 for a used one with zero accessories and scraped up backs), and I came across the setup at Walmart. For $249 you get:
The tablet comes with a 90 day warranty, and their 2yr Care Plan is only $28 and covers drops, spills, cracked screens and such. Squaretrade can't even touch that for a 2yr plan on a refurb. Tax comes to about $15 give or take unless you're in DE or some other tax free state.
Official ICS is running really smooth on it. Definitely breathes new life into it and silenced all the whiners threatening to buy a N7 if Samsung kept delaying the update. Big threat to a company that already made it's money off of them.
CM10 and AOSP builds as well as multiple tweaked ICS builds. [xda-developers.com]
And I've been doing some research on alternative 8.9 to 9.4" tablets to see if I'd still go with the Tab 8.9 the second time around. Apparently nobody else knows how to make a small footprint slender tablet of this size and most are closer to 10.1" tablets with the next tablets that are close in size or Samsung's own 10.1" models. The Lenovo 9" is a beast in comparison and has a TFT screen...blah. The Fire 8.9 has a noticeably larger footprint while not being the beast the Lenovo is. But the lack of GPS, gyro, and bluetooth kill it. Plus dealing with rooting and romming to stray from the Amazon software isn't too enticing. That res is nice though. The new sony is still pretty big. I didn't even bother going into weights. That's pretty telling too.
Tab 8.9 230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6 mm
Fire 8.9 240.0 x 164.0 x 8.8 mm
