Typically 2560x1440 actually, I'd say.
1980 x 1080 is *okay* on something this size imo. At least if you just want to have everything bigger. But the extra pixels on the 2560s are quite nice too, and gives you much more space if you want to throw up extra windows.

*in cart* highly confused if I should pull the plug! the price is great for a 27" samsung led but then what I am gonna do with the hanspree 25" got a yr ago

I use this monitor as my primary. Works really well for everyday computing and 1080p gaming. I picked the monitor brand new for around $300 a year and a half ago.

If I had more desk space, I'd pick this up.

Also this monitor is matte, just a little over 1 inch at it's thickest point, and there's no VESA mount for those that asked.

i read some reviews that its not too good if you work on documents as with 1080p the resolution isn't that great and might appear grainy. any thoughts?

Its really about whether u NEED the higher res or not, or can you afford it or not. If you can afford, get the 2560x1440 from Korea or others starting at about $350-$400. If you cannot afford or you can put up with the larger images/"less" real estate, then get this.

I would just feel hesitant about getting a refurb from 1SAD... just might not be worth the hassle if anything is wrong for a few bucks cheaper. Then again many buy refurbs every day and not have a problem, so YMMV. But again if this is ALL u can afford, well the choices are pretty clear.

Everything looks fine in 1920x1080. Never had any issues writing long term papers and I had no issues sitting about 1-3' from the monitor. No issues with working with video production in sony vegas or photo editing in lightroom either.

If you have a higher budget, I'd certainly check out some of those Korean IPS monitors or save up for a Dell Ultrasharp if you're looking at 27" monitors.

a monitor is a part of your rig that you can keep for years. the lifetime of a good monitor vs cpu/gpu is much much longer especially when your monitor is 27" or 30". i would invest in a higher quality mon if given the budget.

Agreed... for most users, high or low end, its pretty hard to "upgrade" from a 2560x1440 27" thats of decent quality, and will last you longer than your PC's useful life. Besides, its the one thing you stare at 99% of the time when you use a computer.

Thanks, OP. I was looking for a modestly priced 27-30" 1080P monitor primarily for gaming. This should fit the bill nicely.

thanks for the feedback! well I wasn't really planning to buy one but at this price it certainly looks like a good upgrade from my 24" hanspree that I got from staples. am assuming for all that it matters, it should definitely be better than the H'pree .. in terms of screen quality, size definitely and the brand itself .. wotsay? i can sell my hanspree for 125 or so to recover some of the cost on this one

These guys have the worst service. Look at BBB reports. I know too many people that have been burned by these clowns.

That's basically cream of the crop for resolution. I'd say the minimum at 27" should be 1920x1200 for a "budget" monitor. Check out the Hanns-G...

I have has major issues dealing with this company's customer service. I ordered something and was charged for it but they never shipped it. It took months to get a resolution on it and only after I filed a chargeback with AMEX. Their customer service is terrible!
