it's not that surprising that they also have overpriced supermarkets... At 125 st i bet you will find the supermarket prices a lot lower. The only thing surprising me is that those $1 pizza places are in some of the most expensive areas of the city, while you would find it harder to find them in some cheap areas of the city. It's a shame that "Entire value per voucher must be used in a single purchase, either online or in-store, by same customer", because otherwise people could just use it to buy a small snack from time to time, rather then going to a newsstand or something. |

When I had a car, I would go to NJ and make a run of Walmart, then Sam's Club, then Shoprite, then (if I wasn't exhausted) Pathmark. But I gave up the car a year ago when I was laid off and only recently went to Walmart by bus from the Port Authority. I could only buy what I could carry home, so no frozen, no cans, nothing too heavy. In spite of the $8 r-t cost of the bus, the savings were well worth it and it's fun to see a variety of items that you will never see them cram into NYC supermarkets. If you hate Walmart, you could always go down to Pathmark in Chinatown, or to Shoprite in Jersey City via the PATH train. |

wish micro food only walmart would come to nyc to pressure keyfood and associated to close their crappy locations. Not all are bad. I have a new keyfood near my apt blocks from old crap one. It is not at cheap as shoprite and pathmark but staff and quality is excellent. Fairway is great but too far |

So it's really easy to rationalize paying for public transportation to get there because it's not hard to reap savings. (I saw quite a few people using luggage on wheels to haul their stuff back to the city.) |
