Deal Details

Last Edited by widgit September 11, 2012 at 05:05 PM
I was doing some research on getting some maintenance done on my SLK when I found an offer from Mercedes-Benz USA. I entered my information and received a $125 gift card that can be used on maintenance and repair service of $250 or more at a dealership. Not applicable on over-the-counter parts or accessories, or combined with other offers, but will take a nice chunk out of a flex-a or -b service. Mine expires 12.31.12.

In the past the value of these coupons has varied as well as dealerships allowing discounts on accessories.

*To redeem offer, customer must present valid state-issued identification along with Mercedes-Benz vehicle owner identification displaying VIN shown above. Limit one offer per customer, per VIN. Valid only for maintenance and repair services performed at participating Merceds-Benz dealer. Total service must be $250 or more (excludes taxes). Offer not applicable for over-the-counter Parts or Accessories purchases. Offer cannot be combined with any other service offers or coupons. Must present coupon at time of service to recieve offer. Non-transferrable between households. Offer applies to this vehicle only. Expires December 31, 2012. Questions? Please contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372).

Why would you post this?
It was an edit. I did not see the link when he first posted it and asked him for it. In the meantime I went to mbusa trying to find it myself only to not find it and come back to the thread to see if he replied. Thats when I saw the link and so edited my post but didn't write EDIT though. But the real question here is does it really matter? And thank you for wasting 2 minutes of my day. I will invoice you.

Assuming it's not a rhetorical question...

Generally the technicians at a dealership are usually required to be certified by the manufacturer whereas your local mom & pop, are not. This isn't always the case, and even if it is, it doesn't mean that your dealership is 'better' or 'worse' than the mom & pop.

You get what you pay for. If you want someone who only works on Mercedes to service your car - then take it to the dealer. You'll also get free food/drink - at mine they have a pool table, Xbox & Kinect for the kids, and TVs. At the Jag dealer they have a full 18 course video golf simulator where you hit the ball onto a huge screen. Optionally, you can get a loaner Mercedes for the day. For that you pay $250 for an oil change.

You can go to a Mom & Pop place - get the same type of oil and filter - no frills - $90.

On my leased cars - I go to the mom and pops - on my purchase vehicles (still under warranty) I go to the dealership. This way there is no excuse the company can give me that the repair is not covered. Once it's out of warranty - off to mom & pop I go.

I like the service I get from the dealers, but I don't have the time or patience to deal with them. The money isn't really an issue - seriously, we are talking about $160 difference every 10,000 miles -

Mechanics dont work in one service center throughout their life. So the kid around the corner might be working for mb or likewise. Finally certification programs are just what they are. It totally depends on the skill level and the experience.

Oil changes and tire rotations dont void warranty.

What is with all the slickdealers with MB's?

Thanks OP passed it on to a friend (MB Owner who doesn't frequent slickdeals)
They save and scrimp everywhere else just to show everyone they have a fancy car laugh out loud

Many non-rich have luxury cars, just a (false) status symbol.

Thanks OP. Also forwarded to a friend.

The executives at Goldman Sachs would agree with you on that.

Honestly, I wonder how they determine what amount that people receive. My 98 C280 got 150 off a 300 or more service. Probably won't use it though.

Shoot owning a Benz isn't to bad, it's all I had driven since I was 16 (of course used and older). Pretty much find you a good indy and you'll be good to go as far as maintenance. I have driven a few cars and haven't found something I enjoy more.

Same logic the kid may never have worked in a service center or touched a Mercedes before -

Agreed - certifications are just programs, however, they would have hands on experience with your vehicle.

Agreed 100% they don't void your warranty - now prove that the guy who changed it didn't break X, Y, or Z while doing so. That's why I use the dealer under warranty - "nobody touched the car besides you" - now I'm completely covered, no questions asked.

$150 off $300 for me
That's okay. It'll cost at least that much for them to pull all the engine covers off your MB anyway.

i'm surprised that they still make and sell parts for antique cars......
LOL! Well....the MB 126 body style was made for many years in many models (engines, etc. example my SDL is a diesel stretch version....wish I had the HUGE back seat back in high school!)....I think the 126 was made from from 1980 until the early 90s....no problem finding parts! And yes, my 300SDL (270,000 miles) will be 26 this year. New in '86-87 the base price was $47,000+.....I don't consider it an antique yet....but it's a classic for certain! (And it loves the open road...drives like a dream at 80+ for as far as you want to go...)

Why do you think the mechanics at the dealer are any different from the small store next to me where I do my oil change? Heck they allow me to use my own oil and filter
The only reason I mention oil changes at the dealer is when buying a used MB it's a good indication the car was well looked after...if he did oil changes there he probably did everything else they suggested! (and, I end up with the papers....valuable info for anyone buying used)
