I didn't see this posted, BUT, I'm sharing because I think this is great for those who just can't let a home phone go and still want pre-paid convenience!
I know some of you are going to Thumbs Down this deal because of the upfront cost -- but it's worth sharing with someone in my opinion.
I don't have a link to proof-- but I believe this will run on Verizon's network. Verizon has a device that looks just like this but in their flavor AND with a 2 year contract.
You buy the "Wireless" Home Phone gateway for $99.99 and is $15/ for 30 days of UNLIMITED home phone service for local and long distance!
If it really runs off Verizon, you could use this service wherever Verizon works in your area as a home based market. Its compatible with your existing home phone (Corded and Cordless) and for $15 monthly, you can't go wrong if you're trying to keep a home phone WITHOUT broadband internet!
OR, pay $30 a month and get UNLIMITED INTERNATIONAL calls to a set list of countries!
Please share your feedback. It's available starting 09/21/2012.
In the event of an emergency call to 911, you must be prepared to provide your address and exact location inside the premises as the 911 call center will NOT have your physical address and may not be able to determine your location.
Use this Wiki to share valuable info like FAQ's and more.
List of International Countries included in $30/month plan (thanks bootymaster):

|Cyprus- Republic of||Malaysia||Thailand|

It is similar/same to Verizon's Home Wireless service
StraightTalk is an MVNO that partners with AT&T, T-mobile, Verizon, and Sprint. Some of their devices operate on GSM networks and some on CDMA networks. With their phones you can typically differentiate this by the presence of a "G" or a "C" in the phone name. It is unknown whether this adapter uses GSM or CDMA.
The odds of successfully using this device with a fax machine or alarm system are pretty low. Using these with voip is spotty but with this device it is practically guaranteed to fail.
