For free vpn, depending on what you need, if you have any windows computer at home you can set up a free pptp vpn server on it (google it). This is what I do when I'm public networks eg. library, coffee shop, etc. A vpn will encrypt and tunnel your internet traffic to your home, so this is a good way if you are satisfied with security of your home connection.
Prices for VPN can depend. For $45 it's decent, but there will occasionally be a better deal. Privateinternetaccess.com sells a VPN series for $40 yearly.

Can someone explain to me how save is it? For example I know that a lot of people use it to download torrent files and stay anonymous. Is this one of the reasons to use it? Also comparing to other similar services how stable / sold / safe is it? Thanks!

If you work allows connection to the VPN, you should be able to bypass any other filters.
An alternative to this is to get cheap lowend VPS and setup your own VPN server. These run as low as $15/yr (e.g. buyvm.net) but of course requires a little bit of work on your part to setup. Here's the thing though - how is privacy handled in a situation like this? I know many VPN providers keep no traces or logs, which will increase your anonymity online, but having your own VPS can be easily traced back to you through the static IP of your server. I understand that the authorities will get you if they're so inclined, but in the case of someone who's torrenting files, I would think a dedicated VPN provider is safer. I could be wrong though. Can anyone shed some light here? |

To the best of my knowledge this is false. What happens is this: <Torrent Tracker> ------- <VPN Provider> ------- Tunnel ------- <Your Computer> <Your ISP> Essentially, your ISP will see you're connecting to the VPN provider, but the encryption protocols used to encrypt your connection will keep them from snooping on exactly what you are doing. The ISP will see traffic, how much of it, but not of what it consists of. |

Does anyone have any knowledge of this provider? Reviews online seem to be somewhat scarce, I am mainly wondering about the average speed as the the price is quite good.
