I don't think so. All your ISP should see is that you are connected via VPN tunnel to VPN Provider. The ports/protocols within that tunnel should be obscured from their view. In regards to system security, your VPN Provider should provide the same NAT function as your home router. All host based security software such as firewall/AV will function the same whether you are going straight out or out via VPN. |

But price is very decent. This site recommends this provider - http://vpnreviewz.com/hide-my-ass-review/ |

I recommend this VPN: $39.95/year ($10 cheaper than what OP posted )https://www.privateinternetaccess...s/buy-vpn/ You basically get a shared ip address. Since multiple people are using the same ip address at the same time, tracing back is difficult
It is $10 cheaper, AND NO LOGS ARE MAINTAINED.

They keep logs and give them up. http://yro.slashdot.org/story/11/...om-the-fbi http://torrentfreak.com/vpn-provi...co-111006/ http://lifehacker.com/5936938/how...id-is-down
Making it that hard to uninstall seems a little sketchy to me. Last edited by cmorris1441; 09-12-2012 at 09:59 AM.. |

Firewalls and other such local security software only protect you from what's coming into your computer. Once a transmission leaves your computer, it's out of your control. Additionally, if you're not connecting to a website or service that is encrypted, then that transmission is just plain ol' readable text that is again, out of your control. This service allows you to encrypt all your outgoing traffic so to your ISP, you're just sending and receiving encrypted data to one server all the time. It's by no means a complete security solution, but it's a step in the right direction |

I assume there are few kinds of need for this kind of services.
Since everyone has different need, let talk about the needs and which companies did the best job with the best price. - Best deal for secure connection when using public Wifi in places like Starbucks that people recommend? - Best services and best deal to hide your connection from your ISP(and others) and not keep track of your traffic that people recommend? - For website that only allow connection from certain countries, which services with the best price people recommend? Any websites do a good job for all of them? Or need to signup for different services for each one? |

Feature-wise how does this compare to http://www.strongvpn.com ???

With a VPN provider, you are sharing a specific cluster of servers and the same Internet pipe with thousands of other users; To use an example of something clearly illegal, let's say you download child pornography through this VPN provider, and the authorities want to get to you. They'll have to go to the VPN provider, cross-reference the access times with the IP addresses, figure out who was connected at the time, and where, from their internal network, the traffic originated in the first place. Because this is all encrypted, the amount of effort to get to the perpetrator is quite high. With a VPS that you own and set up yourself, downloading the same file through your VPN will basically expose the IP address of your VPS to the website serving the request - with which they can then subpoena the host you're buying from, and have the information of who bought that particular server readily at hand, including all the logs of the people connected to that VPN server, which in this case would be much smaller. |
