For free vpn, depending on what you need, if you have any windows computer at home you can set up a free pptp vpn server on it (google it). This is what I do when I'm public networks eg. library, coffee shop, etc. A vpn will encrypt and tunnel your internet traffic to your home, so this is a good way if you are satisfied with security of your home connection.
i use this same server (8 year old dell) to as my scanner and electronic filing (paperport = not free) server, back up important files to it (with syncback), and torrenting box. Last edited by bob13bob; 09-23-2012 at 02:34 PM.. |

a free vpn will never be as fast as a paid one, that is for sure.
also a free vpn is making money off of you one way or another, like by selling data about you to a 3rd party. *ALL* vpns log connection activity to some extent. as forhow long they keep that data you dont know, but the better vpns regularly cycle their data. also, you want to take a look at how long a vpn has been in business. the longer, as in a number of years, the better. whats trending right now >>> Slickdeals Live View Feed TWC charging $3.95 to lease their cable modem - buy your own modem discussion if someone steals food from your lunch in the refrigerator at work, just make some yummy tempting cookies with laxatives in them. then just wait to see who gets the runs! that person wont ever steal anything from your lunch ever again!!! O.O |

Just adding to my previous post.
For VPN services that have large selection of servers (worldwide), I notice these are the one mentioned here or in review sites posted slickvpn - http://www.slickvpn.com/locations.html $0.75/day (Block of 4/8/12/16/20 days), $15 a month, $35 6-month, $75 yearly witopia - https://www.witopia.net/products/ (people in other forum indicate it may block P2P related activity) (Pro with OpenVPN $70/year, basic $50/year) StrongVPN - http://strongvpn.com/packages_special.shtml (yearly special only for servers at 4 countries. For servers at ALL 20 countries, need Deluxe PPTP or OPEN which is $15 or $20 a month) (for less countries $55/year PPTP or $85/year PPTP or OPEN) Astrill - https://www.astrill.com/pricing.php HideMyNet.com - http://www.hidemynet.com/ $7 a month, $49 a year (plus other plans). Have 12 countries (some servers seems to allow P2P but many including those in US/UK, etc don't) Anyone has experiences with them and how are the speed, reliability, price, etc? Also saw this Overplay VNC and Vpntraffic, anyone heard of them? https://www.overplay.net/locations.php http://www.vpntraffic.com/ $5/month or $35/year http://www.ibvpn.com/premium-vpn.html $37/year for plan with only couple countries. $70/year for plan cover more countries https://www.privateinternetaccess...s/buy-vpn/ Last edited by MozartA; 01-30-2013 at 08:49 AM.. |
