So if I open up line 4) would I need to buy a dumbphone on my own? So that when I get the upgrade, I can switch it to 1) and activate my purchased dumbphone on 4)? Sorry for any confusions, I just would like to keep my unlimited like everyone else. I'm sure I can find a cheap dumbphone on craigslist or ebay, but I would like to make sure first. Also are dumbphone lines still $10 a line or would it be $30 like the new plans? Thanks for any help on this. Last edited by dkeymaker; 12-01-2012 at 05:12 AM.. |

Check the ESN when you buy it on craigslist. Dumbphones (when they are an add-on line) are only supposed to be $10/month. Looks like you get it. Good luck! |

Still working. I ordered a GS3 from Costco on Black Friday using my wife's dumbphone line. I activated the phone to her line over the automated phone process for third party sellers. Then I got online and reactivated her old phone, at that time I was prompted to select a new data plan for the dumb phone and had the option to change to pay per use. I then activated the GS3 to my number with unlimited data online. It took about 20 min until the SIM transferred and I could make calls, but it worked. Verified online that my unlimited data is still there.

I understand the method but can someone clarify a few things?
Can I buy the phone anywhere? i.e. Best buy, verizon store or do I have to buy it online? I'm asking this bc BB and verizon stores usually setup up the phone and transfer the line for you before you leave so idk if this loophole would work. I checked the verizon online store and they don't have a variety of phones compared to like Best Buy online. I want to get the phone off of amazon wireless since it's cheaper there... Now upon receiving the new phone, do I have to activate the phone on the dumb line first THEN transfer it to the unlimited line? or can I just activate it straight on my unlimited line? Sim card? Lastly, doesn't Verizon charge you full retail if you buy a subsidized phone from them and not activate it? I'm asking because I might sell it I'm thinking about just getting the droid razr maxx hd for the battery Last edited by dkang88; 12-06-2012 at 08:51 PM.. |

My phones are finally up for upgrade now. Is this still alive?
I've got two iphone 4's with unlimited data. Is there anyway for me to upgrade to the 5 and keep unlimited data? Add two dumb phones to my account and then switch the upgrade to them and buy the 5 and activate those on the unlimited lines? Would love to hear from somebody. Thanks! Do NOT call about a DEAL!!

I'll be getting my new phone in on Monday, so I'll let you guys know how it goes.
This is what you should understand from my understanding of how to keep your unlimited. Thanks to AkumaX. -Whatever line your Unlimited Data plans are attached to will never be upgrade-able without losing your unlimited data. -In order to keep your unlimited data you need to upgrade on another line or in many cases, the dumbphone line. -You can wait til a dumbphone line upgrade is available on your plan or add a new line. You can not upgrade transfer an unlimited data line to a dumbline, this will still count as you upgrading your unlimited data line? (<= from what I understand) -If you add a smartphone line to your plan, that line has its own Data package, unless you choose a Share everything package, in which you'll lose your unlimited data. -If you are using the dumbline to upgrade to a smartphone, you need a dumbphone to replace the dumbline. This means you need to purchase a dumbphone or have one lying around. -You must activate the smartphone on the dumbline first, then after it's activated and working? you can change and activate a dumbphone on your dumbline, which will give you the option to choose a data plan (=pay per use), leaving the dumbline at a $10 a month charge. -You can then activate your new smartphone on your unlimited data line without losing your unlimited data since you are not changing your plan, only changing your phone. Which should equal the same as buying a new phone at full retail to keep your unlimited. I'm doing my upgrade all online without having to set foot into a Verizon store. Even if you go into a store, they may not have the phone you want available in store, and may need to order and ship it to your house anyways. If you go through the whole process online, you'll be able to see if the unlimited data plans have been affected before you actually process the order. Make sure you look through and read everything carefully. I can't wait to get my Note 2 and use 10GB+ a month. Quick Update 12/10/12: Looks like I still have my unlimited data

Has anyone activated the phone directly to the unlimited line first rather than the dumb line? If so, were there any crazy bills that were out of the ordinary? Just want to make sure that Verizon won't charge me full retail of the phone bc I activated the phone on the unlimited line first or does it even matter? BTW I'm on a family plan if that even matters...
